Hmm. If its a high-skilled dwarf, destroy some of his masterpieces.
Maybe the easiest way is just wall them in with no food/drink for a while.

I want to make something like a Gladiatorial arena and make one of my champions mad so he would fight another champion to entertain the crowd...
So I need a safe way to make my champion hostile.

In my experience, berserk dwarves can rarely be counted on for an amusing show.  Much more fun is to station a champion there, build cages filled with captured foes, and release them all via lever.

Well, I thought about making my champions fight wild animals, but that was planed as a second part of the show... the victorious champion has to fight wild animals and goblins.

Why not assign them to a squad and have them spar? As far as I know, it's usually fatal.

Berserking isn't always guaranteed when your dwarf loses his mid. You may end up with a combat incapable champion that's running around scaring the crowd with his naked... better not go there.

I think that the best bet would be by making him very unhappy. Insanity from very drowsy is imho less likely to lead to berserking:
1)sleep in mud without room or barracks and under sky (preferably under rain)
2)keep workshop running close to him while he sleeps
3)eat only raw plump helmets (unless he particularly likes them of course), better yet - catch some vermin in cages and make that the only available food to him
4)eating should of course take place without a table
5)drink water
6)no better then basic quality furniture including doors/floodgates
7)miasma - lots of it as it is not lethal
8)organize some non-lethal dust from cave-in or smoke (cautious)
9)keep an insect he particularly dislikes (if any) in a no-quality cage next to him
10)prior to berserking he will probably tantrum - so keep him in a pit without any furniture to break and any items to throw (feed him by dumping 1 unit of food when he becomes hungry)
11)if he has an animal adopted - kill it and let it rot away
12)same as the above but with his spouse and children if any
13)if after a year of all the above he is still not very unhappy - start to kill random dwarves hoping to get his friends.

Wow! Now that's a useful advice, if a little cruel (just like the whole idea of making dwarves fight each other to death for fun)

Thanks, I'm going to try it.

An obvious way would be cheating : alter its mood level by using an external program.

Drop floor tiles near him. Build tiles that are only touching hatch covers or bridges. (unless that was fixed) The dust will knock him out, and make him unhappy.

If you put him in a squad and have him spar for a while, then kill all of his squad mates, you should be almost certain to get a friend or two. Then make sure they aren't buried. In fact, put a graveyard stockpile in his bedroom.
