Bandits are now stronger than demi-gods

Grind my skills for an hour, first bandit encounter.

He blocks my sword slash (very easy-very easy) (I'm a master swordsman)

I dodge him

He blocks my sword stab (easy-normal)

He Cuts my leg off (I'm master dodger)

Then Cuts my head off (master shield user too)

Really now, Bandits are just stupid.

Or all my other characters, which are

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL flying copper arrows LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL dead.

This has less to do with bandits and more to do with historical figures in general. Most of the undead in crypts I can kill quite easily, but there always seems to be a few random superzombies that can dodge easy attacks from a legendary fighter/axedwarf and consistently shatter my pelvis through 3 layers of armor on the first attack (for the record, I savescummed, it was always the same ones). I've seen the same thing with bandits, including one dodgy bowman that fired 6 arrows, landing 6 direct hits and chipping 6 bones before I bled out from having both my heart and throat shot out.

I guess Toady will fix this in some way later. I also made a peasant character and grinded to get High attributes and legendary wrestler/fighter (those poor poor kobolds). But got whipped effortlessly by the nearest bandit, and arrows. ARROWS.

I'm currently stuck in fighting by throwing stuff to enemies at the moment.

What's the problem? Demigods aren't immortal terminator machines, DF will kill you if you can't back up your claims :P

Yeah, I imagine it has something to do with historical figures like bandits having a long and fintense careers of continuous and aggressive fighting and plundering that drives their skills and attributes to absurd levels.

In short, they are something like immensely seasoned veterans working tirelessly to perfect the art of murder and banditry, much like the adventurers themselves, only there are more of them and they've been doing it longer then the adventurer.

Like others have said, I suppose it's about their histories - I guess the leaders are the leaders because of their skill.
Bandits are probably fairly varied, just most of the ones that survive world gen are the ones that were good enough to survive.

I don't like the new superbandits, I mean maybe legendary bandits should have their own title or something so we can have normal quests and upper level quests

I like the new arrows, but I still want targeted shooting because it takes so many turns to shoot as opposed to throwing

I don't like the new superbandits, I mean maybe legendary bandits should have their own title or something so we can have normal quests and upper level quests. The Game is supposed to be hard (Which I do like- the old DFAVM was too easy) but these bandits are just ridiculous.

It'd be pretty cool if bandits, once they're nigh-indestructible badasses, could actually take over towns and such... Now that would be an interesting city. :)

Giving them a proportionate amount of wounding to go with the skills, might help even it out.  They have a ton of fighting experience, but they are also in perfect health for some reason.  Even my luckiest adventurers or Dwarfs will get some scars, at least.  More often they end up losing the use of limbs, or have breathing problems, and it ends up diminishing the advantage of their higher skills.

I do remember last version that the occasional bandit would hand my demi-god his ass. (Usually they had metal whips.)

So I'm just echoing the choir here. The difference between last version and this is that more bandits are historical figures with absurd kill lists, and therefore insane skill levels. Before the majority of bandits I think were one offs generated to populate the world.

It does seem odd to me though, that so many bandits managed to survive and reach bad ass status when half a dozen megabeasts, demons and other stuff succumb in the first 50 to 100 years. Bandits should be on a lower rung of difficulty, and having 8 Bandit Chiefs the equal of Civ leaders seems a little ridiculous. One would think if they were that bad ass, they'd quit hang out with scum and low lifes and rise to a higher station.

Just imagine them as all 'robin hood' rather than 'random bandit'. It makes you feel better to have been killed by robin hood.
