According to my research(read: dropping a lot of sponges in a river whit great master everything dwarves in full adamantite w/ adamantite great axes, getting bored, spawning a bronze collossus and a few ducks and watching amused as the ducks splat into the walls), they CAN give in to pain, but after a while they just get such high willpower (usually!), thus making them invicable to pain.

Are zombie sponges still immobile?

... Are you WANTING something that can't be hurt/killed to rise as something that more powerful and HARDER to hurt/kill? :p

...Yes...

I've pitted one against a sea serpent. It's been going for a good ten minutes now, at 300fps. These are pretty much Giozgins fluffballs, minus the syndrome.

EDIT: It's been going for half an hour now. Still no change.

New test : see how lethal you can make giant sponges by changing two tags  :P

Take immobile off, add curious beast: guzzler, and watch your dwarves weep as it flollops inexoribly into the booze stockpile.

Shove slaughtering all in it's path.

Fun facts:

Regular sponges are [BODY_SIZE:0:0:50000], about the size of a fully-grown sheep.

Giant sponges are 11.2x larger (in volume), about the size of a fully-grown horse or cow.

Just did some testing in the arena, a raised giant sponge is pretty much a necromancers best friend. It takes just as much punishment, if not more, than a living giant sponge, and can knock candy-coated supersoldiers unconscious in a single hit.

The modders have discovered polymorphing. The only real question is what to use as the trigger for a "polymorph into (giant) sponge" effect.

You could introduce a custom were creature strain on a migrant provided you edit the raws to allow sponges to breath on land.
In adventure mode that would be game breaking, especially ambushes.

Tell them it was the Esoteric title, if you live!
You turn into a giant sea sponge!
the bandits fire 3192 copper bolts at you, but they are absorbed! (paraphrased, yes I know)

you could just sit there shoving peoples necks in half, tanking damage, and generally being awesome.
