What determines room claiming?
« on: December 14, 2007, 07:57:00 pm »

Econ is on, and some of my dwarves are refusing to take rooms even though there are plenty within their realm of purchase.

The dwarves in question have around 400-500 monies while there are rooms ranging from 100 to 300 in rent. Yet they prefer to sleep in the barracks.

Even the kids all have their own separate rooms but a few of these trouble dwarves refuse to claim anything.

Are they soldiers or Fortress Guard? Those by default will want to sleep in the barracks, I believe.

All my soldiers have rooms actually.

Just a bunch of random craftsdwarves.

The rent is applied every so often (monthly, maybe?) so dwarves will only take up residence in rooms that are quite a bit below their current cash reserve.

If they're not moving into 100* rooms, try making some 50* rooms and see if they'll move into those.

If that's the case, how the hell are kids affording the ~300 rooms?

Damn kids, always partying and not doing real work.

Ok, definitely not cost. One of my richest dwarves (over 2000 in cash) refuses to claim a room.

Maybe he just likes sleeping in barracks?

Kids have the combined income of their parents, apparently.
