So I got this notification that an elven caravan has arrived and that it has started raining. Pretty normal occurrence. I usually wait until they arrive at my depot before bringing out the goods mainly for security reasons. So I'm waiting, giving digging instructions and watching the depot for their arrival. The fortress is on a volcano so its very difficult to see where anything is. Then I notice that my dwarves are pathing outside and bringing in all sorts of things, all sorts of wooden things. I looked around and found a pile of equipment, rope reed items, absurd wooden weapons, surface booze, and animals in cages. A pile of elf gear sitting at the center of a spreading circle of fire. There was no reports of combat or anything. Just poof. Gone. Did it get struck by lightning?

Water, I can't get past the world generation on 34.01. This is just the latest version of Meph's Masterwork, which hasn't moved to DF2012. Plus it was a perfectly normal savage biome on a lovely volcano inhabited by chronically-depressed livers with legs.

It's possible that a fire imp came out of the volcano and hit the caravan with a fireball.  It's also possible, though less likely, for a magma crab to have done it.

I don't care what it was, really, spontaneous elven combustion is awesome. Someone should make a mod so that it happens more often...

Well it might have been an imp or a crab, but I've yet to see one, and there was no combat reports. Plus they were a long ways from the caldera, basically only 4 squares from the edge of the map.

Again, please post this in the Masterwork Mod thread, otherwise the chance that I stumble upon somthing like this is rather slim, which in turn makes fixing it impossible for me. If I dont know about it, I cant work on it.

Anyway, still no idea what caused it ? Which version did you use ? There is also the old DF bug of rain that melts people, which is rather random and has nothing to do with my mod. Always difficult to figure out things without error-logs.

Realistically ? Most likely a fire man or fire imp.

Or maybe Armok decided to kill them brutally for laughs.
