I think I might have bitten off more than I can chew
« on: February 16, 2012, 03:42:08 pm »

I decided to double the !!fun!! By embarking on an evil frozen tundra, no trees, no vegetation for grazers and no water frozen or otherwise on the surface.

The only sane thing about the site is flux, a volcano and a soil layer.

I've currently lost three dwarfs to zombie raven attacks, zombie yack hair is terrifying my entrance (I really shouldn't have butchered that damn thing) l, my militia commander threw a tantrum after standing guard in the bitter slime rain that makes everyone sick and murdered his subordinate. To top it all of I'm missing two dwarfs, so either I've got a vampire or the ravens got them.

The only good news is the farm and still are working fine, but those ravens have become skeletal and have become much more lethal.

HELP!

You're going to lose!  :D Isn't it Fun? My suggestion is to muddle through, cheer with joy if you survive, and if not, reclaim. I'm in a similar situation at the moment, so I know where you're coming from.

I also embarked on a frozen evil glacier, and am currently doing quite well with 6 dwarves still living sealed off from the surface. Have 2 breeding pairs, and a sustainable food supply... The surface is inhabited by hordes of zombified migrants.

I'm just desperately trying to get a magma smelter set up so I can hit those bloody ravens with something.

Who'd have thought zombie ravens could be so lethal, aside from the person who created the resident evil series.

HELP!

From the sounds of it, it's all your fault. You monster. I will not prolong the suffering of your Dwarves.

I just embarked on my first evil biome and I'm having lots of !FUN!.
Dug out the basics, found lots of iron and tetrahedrite, get excited knowing that there's flux somewhere on the map, got a farm going, drained some ponds for a well, suddenly beakdogs! Butchered my militia, as only my commander thought to use the axe he had been chopping wood with, then ran down and killed everyone else. My mayor outran the beakdogs until they got bored, went to the masons shop to start making coffins, then became melancholy, wandered outside and became enveloped in noxious ash.
Reclaim 1: Embark with woodburner and weapon and armor smith, the rest military teachers, still greedily thinking of all that lovely iron.
Ash cloud is still there, try to run my dwarves to a meeting area that's NOT directly in the path of the ash, see 2 guys sprinting towards the cloud, realize that the old meeting area is still active too late.
2 Ash Husks start beating the crap out of each other  :D, then everyone else  :(, then everyone was an ash husk. :'(

Will all these ash husks still be around when I embark again? I'm thinking of sending a well equipped military next time, there should be plenty of food and supplies scattered around from my failed attempts.

They'll probably be lying in ambush.

Well, maybe the zombie yack hair and the psychotic militia commander (I'm just glad he isn't armed)

This is the first time I've ever really struggled apart from when I first started playing. I just hope the dead dwarfs will stay in their coffins.

Kudos to toady for upping the fun by several levels.

About that... No, they'd much rather stretch their legs and eat more Dorfs.

Oh come on!

Are you seriously telling me they're going to step out of their coffins and continue to terrorise my fortress!?

Looks like I'll have to step up production of the magma crematorium.

I thought only bashing weapons (hammers, maces) are good against zombies in evil biomes now?

What madness has been told to you?!

In all seriousness, axes would be better than hammers at taking on bigger zombies, and tougher things like OP's ash husks.
Hammers just leave less pieces to clean up.
More pieces = More smaller undead.

A plus and a loss if you ask me.
