Wait, I got it!  Make a bunch of cloth, dye it black, and make cloaks out of it.  Whoever starts hoarding black cloaks is obviously a vampire!

Urist McRedCloak?

I think the nickname thing should be considered an exploit. Much like the quantum stockpile nobody should be faulted for using it but the "proper" way to catch a vampire should be salem style trial by water or paranoid garrisoning of dogs in everyones room.

Wait, it's been confirmed that dogs will attack a feeding vampire?  Someone mentioned in another thread that this didn't work.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Conclusion: No vampires were involved here. Oddities in the relationship screen may be perfectly natural.

They won't? Oh, then police state. Garrison soldiers in everyone's room.

ive had a dwarf arrive coverd in over 40 peices of bone jewelry and with 48 none-sentient kills to his name.
So a dwarfs bling factor and his kills dosent necessarily mean their a vampire.

Such a bling factor usually means they killed alot of animals, not sentients. I had a hunter with 200+ kills, nearly all of them giant animals or animal men.

From my personal experiences, I have confirmed two interesting things.

1. A vampire dwarf can enter moods and make artifacts.
2. It is possible for one of your dwarves to accuse a non dwarf of murder. One of my dwarves accused a buck rabbit.

He himself may be a vampire then.

Or he absolutely detests buck rabbits.
or the buck rabbit is a vampire?

Is it entirely confirmed that all blood draining is instantaneous? I once found one of my garrisoned soldiers standing around in my dining hall, and he was faint or pale, can't recall which. Not a scratch on him otherwise.

You'd think the vampiric dwarf would just drain a little, not kill him.
But then, iot is a dwarf vampire, and logic doesn't seem to be very high on thier priorities...
