I found a blowgun underground once near one of my old fortress never made it out to use it.
   My favorite is an axe.

My first cavern layer always seems to have a calm little tribe of serpentmen for me to treat like native Americans in a spaghetti western. But I never find any darts on their corpses, and no dart-firing ever appears in the combat logs. Maybe it's just a historical oddity of some sort.

Did they have blowgunners in the first place? If they did, then they tend to get into fights with animals. They may had used them up before you arrived.
