Towers/Reading Slabs
« on: February 16, 2012, 09:50:35 am »

So, I made a new world, tracked down a slab to a tower, started a character near that tower and traveled to it in an attempt to learn necromancy.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

There were about 10 necromancers at the tower, and about 500 humans. Everyone was friendly to me, until i tried to stab a necromancer in the back, then they all became hostile, I hid behind the tower and after awhile managed to clear the area around it, cleared the first room, blah blah blah, 90 notable kills and 440 other kills later I have the slab and attempt to read it, but nothing happens.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The acquired powers stuff from 'x' is empty

These are my stats, and I have novice reading skill:

Two questions, is it normal for there to be 500 humans inside a necromancer tower? And is there a reason I am unable to raise the dead after reading the slab?

I can't answer the question, but that pic is epic.

It honestly feels like a lot of their problems came from the fact that their entire team was composed of cats, and the people who were supposed to be herding them were also cats.

heh, its kind of hilarious. all the humans ran off in random directions when I arrived, the ground is covered in severed limbs and reanimated corpses for about a mile in all directions. A few people even got stuck in small ponds and drowned

As far as I know, elves cannot become necromancers. A for effort though.

Looks like the 10 necromancers had about 50 apprentices!

Good job riding the world of all that evil though, you are a paragon for Armok!

YOU PLAY AS ELF.

I think this may be the problem.  Looking at the example interactions:

Note the REQUIRES:MORTAL tag.  Elves do not age, so this presumably precludes them from becoming necromancers.

Your efforts aren`t wasted, though. I`d pick the slab up and place it in some lair near a town and then start a new adventurer.

Armok loves bloodshed if you spill enough blood he will love you.
Which is why we have tons of bandits and vampires royalties.

154. When you get the word "adamantine" on your LA vocab, you quickly cross it out and replace it with "cotton candy" and spend the next 10 minutes in fetal position rocking back and forth in fear. (Yes, I actually did this.)
...Wait. Adamantine is real?...
...155. You are no longer sure what metals are real or fictional.

Elves cannot become necromancers because they are immortal? odd. If I remove that tag, would I be able to load my game and read it? or would I have to start a new game or world?

You can change creature RAWs without trouble.  Changing entity RAWs requires a regen. So if you want to find elven necromancers NPCs in your world, then you'd have to regen, but if you just want your adventurer to learn the Secrets of Life and Death, you should be fine.
