Possibly stupid question, but how do you remove campfires?

So thinking I could maybe put these fires out or something I surrounded myself with them before I went to bed. Then I was awoken by who knows what (I can't see it) and the campfires are a) still burning and b) completely surrounding me. I can't alt-walk over them, interact with them (except to melt ice) or throw water on them to put them out. I can't sleep or travel because there are apparently monsters nearby. WHAT DO

I'm fairly certain if you just wait with the . key, they'll burn out eventually.

I too got caught in a similar situation.. I think Toady should add an interaction called 'Douse Campfire (direction)'

In the short term, don't trap yourself by surrounding yourself with campfires unless your adventurer is suicidal

Once I did something similar, and (thankfully) had been stockpiling knives for throwing. Some wolves ambushed me, they were just sitting there, so I started pelting them with knives until they chickened out and ran off. So, perhaps only try this on large, flat areas when you have large amounts of stuff to throw? Or mod in an adventurer reaction that conjures rocks or something out of nothing.

Huh. Odd. I never saw that... I only saw "loam" or something other than the campfires when I pressed g on an empty tile.

the rocks are kind of random, some place have hardly any where others have them on nearly every tile.

If you are really desperate, then throw loam, not sure it would do anything, but at least you would have tried.

Wait, you are surrounded through all sides? Even diagonal? If not, hit 1,3,7 or 9 to move diagonally.
