Checking seed of created world
« on: December 13, 2007, 07:34:00 pm »

How do you check the seed of a world that you created so that you can generate it again?
Thanks

you can export it to a text file after world generation, or from legends mode.  i think the key is "p"

I was wondering this very thing, and found it a little confusing, being new to Dwarf Fortress.

If you haven't exported the world seed at the start of the game, world_gen_param-region1.txt will not exist.

If you have an active fortress, legends mode won't show up for that world.
To get legends mode to appear, you'll need to abandon your fortress first. You could probably backup your entire save folder, abandon your fortress, produce the seed, and then restore the backup if you wanted to avoid abandoning a productive fortress.
