Necromancer Siege! (I wasn't ready for it...)
« on: February 15, 2012, 08:33:58 pm »

Oh, man.  Thankfully I had some military squads equipped and training.  I just started working on some traps.  Then the Necromancer came, with 39 of his undead buddies.

Long story short:  10 dorfs dead, 20 undead killed, the necromancer ran off the map.  The elves who were there to trade escaped unscathed (damn it).  One dorf has gone mad; everyone else is holding up.

Concurrently with the battle, My stonecrafter got a mood and turned out a cruddy mudstone amulet.  He got Legendary Engraver out of it, so maybe he'll make some cool battle report engravings.

Also, my Daignostician (whom I ordered into battle when I decided to Zerg Rush the enemy) got the most kills: four.  Including a titled zombie.  He scares me.

Anyone else have a Necromancer siege yet?

If a necromancer leaves the map, will it return later with another horde?

Oh dear, doesn't he disappear from the world when he does that?

Not sure if that's fixed yet, but doesn't the appearance of historical figures sort of suggest that they survive now? Maybe?

Not necessarily.  Someone needs to pay attention to their liaison.  Check if it's the same one from last year.

liasons are normally the same for me, unless you know, he has a rather... unpleasent reception.
I had a necromancer raid. I decided, because he doubled as a farmer, to call him gardener-mancer. He thought it'd be fun to annoy my pikedwarves and kill my attack dogs. He's been at it for SIX. MONTHS.

No, this was fixed.

He can and probably will show up later.

Be prepared this time and ridiculously murder him before he can raise every once-living thing on the map to kill you.

Nope. He just thought gardening was a lovely hobby along with raising legions of the dead.

So are we going to get perpetual necromancer sieges? Providing we keep 'Ol Necro-Bill alive?

I've spent 6 months trying to find this jackass. I have a full platoon's worth of troops scouring the place and he keeps -just- far away enough to avoid detection. Then the tick people get up and accost my soldiers again.

I never have any magma. Haven't worked out pumpstacks and it's too damn far down to get until I have more dorfs....

Capture him, chain him up downstairs (in an area COMPLETELY devoid of corpses) and let your dwarves learn necromancy from him.
