The dungeon master, batterer and misc. issues from DF2010
« on: February 15, 2012, 02:06:24 pm »

Here a list of issues from DF2010 that I dream to see fixed in 2012:
- The absence of the dungeon master
- The absence of the batterer
- The absence of the elf diplomat
- The possibility to start a fortress from a dead civilisation (no capital)

Have they been fixed?

Cheers

'batterer'?  I assume you mean the Hammerer.  The raws have been changed to make the Hammerer a position you can manually appoint, and a note has been added which seems to make the Hammerer skilled in using hammers for execution.  It was possible to mod the raws in the previous version to make the Hammerer work, but I expect it's better integrated with the new Justice screen now.

The Dungeon Master still doesn't show up, and doesn't do anything even if you mod him to be manually created.

Elves still don't have a diplomat position.

You didn't actually expect any big fixes in this release, did you?  This release was about adding new features (and associated new bugs), not fixing bugs.

How large of bugs from older releases does Toady fix during the bug fix cycle?  It seems he added some nontrivial stuff between some of the .31 bug fixes, so maybe some of this could be fixed?  Not that I'm counting on it really, I expect him to focus on stuff new to DF2012.

Well, it's typically a cycle of:
--> New version is released and played for a week or so
--> Toady collects all of the largest bugs (geese laying iron chairs or Dwarves melting in regular ol' rain for two past examples)
--> An updated version (34.02) comes out with the most necessary bug-fixes
--> A whole host of smaller bugs caused by odd coding or something appear
--> 34.03 comes out which covers those
--> Spit, rinse and repeat

And if Toady at some point gets distracted by something he hammers at it and we get an unexpectedly large 34.04 which has some bugfixes for older bugs/features.

or, you know, he adds a whole new thing like he did with beekeeping/wax crafts.

I have issues channeling it properly to do that method. I end up flooding the fortress with magma.

Usually stiff gets fixed when it not getting fixed gets in the way of Toady doing something, like how the list of addable creature tags are all the zombie-related ones. 3D designations were probably related to Toady needing to designate a lot of stuff during testing ;D for example.

Toady's working on the 'Caravan Arc' which will bring in a lot of trade-related stuff. I'll be he fixes up elf / dwarf settlements somewhat and liasons with that (will need to, to integrate all the market stuff in a single coherent framework).

I want to know if dwarves know how to get new clothes and deal with partway-full buckets, and also if blood & such goes away.

Generally after a big release, Toady fixes the new problems as much as he can, and then goes back to old issues. It is likely that he'll fix dungeon masters now, as well as clothing issues since the former sees a lot of complaint on the forums and the latter won that poll on what bug people most want fixed. Toady also mentioned he'd like to finally make dwarves react properly to fire, as well as the new mists.

I'm pretty sure Toady mentioned that the bucket thing had been fixed, since, you know, hospitals are a hell of a lot more important now.

Genetics (hair, eyes, etc) are still broken from what I've seen as well. I really hope they get fixed.

I hate having to generate worlds with 300 civs just to find one that isn't comprised solely of clones.

I was hoping it was a more generic position than just hammerer and that was the name change.  Although the sworder or axer sounds kinda silly.

I'd go with "Executioner" for the reputation :)

1 isn't fixed, 2 is (assuming "batterer" means hammerer), 3 is trivial to fix, 4 was already possible.
