Yay, I finally watched all of your episodes!

It sucks that you didn't manage to become a vampire, but I don't know what you did wrong. There really is nothing else to it than drinking vampire blood. I can only guess that the body switching on the last vamp fight confused the game, but still, very strange.

I'm excited about your tomb adventures, but I've got a bad feeling about this...

Oh, another thing I noticed: in Episode 3, you seemed very confused why your dwarf lady didn't have a beard. Unfortunately, female dwarfs are unbearded in default DF, but it's very easy to change that. Open creature_standard.txt in /raw/objects and search for CASTE:FEMALE . This is where the differences between male and female dwarfs are declared. Toady left a line in there which decides about the beard status: BODY_DETAIL_PLAN:FACIAL_HAIR_TISSUE_LAYERS .
Put square brackets around this and all worlds you generate will have beards for all dwarfs.

You can also change your existing world by editing the same file in /data/save/region1/raw/objects . I recommend doing that after your adventurer dies and before you start a new one, or the game might be upset.

I eagerly await the next episode!

PS: Go easy with the cheating. With great power comes great responsibility.

I'm glad you enjoy our videos :) The next thing we're gonna try out is to drink the blood of a vampire that's still alive. Maybe that works better.

Thank you so much for the beard tip, you may just have saved all dwarves everywhere in our world. I went and changed the files right away. As of episode 11 the female dwarves will finally have their beards!

Oh and by the by, we actually uploaded the next episode yesterday, but youtube is being very difficult about the thumbnail. So we haven't made it public yet. Hopefully we'll be able to soon. As for our tomb adventure, it... Went bad, and good. And it seems that Armok may have intervened. I guess I shouldn't say any more than that.

Episode 10 is up HERE! Finally time for our tomb adventures. And there'll be more of them in Episode 11.

Oh, one more thing; when becomign a vampire, it's your attributes lik strength and agility that double and are then fixed at that level, not your skills.

Also, that wolf that ripped up your foot was so hard to hit and doing so much damage to you due to the mummy's curse. Mummy curses reduce your skill and attribute rolls, such that you are attacking as if you were half as skilled as you actually are, and defend only half as well as you should, meaning you're a bad shot and a good target. Your foot will never function again because of the motor nerve damage you suffered. You'll need a crutch as well.Necromancer towers don't offer any loot besides books that may or may not teach you the secrets of life and death.

And those are some impressive tomb fields you've got. For how long did you generate the world?

That was an awesome episode. It was heartbreaking when your best companions died, but luckily you got some divine intervention.
The tomb-raiding was really scary, too.

It's sad that you pretty much lost your foot now. Sleeping has helped me sometimes, but that foot looks pretty messed up with all that nerve damage. I doubt that you'll be able to walk again without a crutch. Well, look at it from the bright side: if you find a pair of boots now, you can wear the left one and As can wear the right one.

Like Eric Blank said, there are no crutches in towers. You can find crutches in tombs or bandit camps (both dangerous, especially when you're slow) or in keeps in the middle of towns as well as in human fortresses (both are marked on your quest map).

And another thing: if you want to know which material is the best for armor or weapons, the wiki has a great article about that: http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/DF2012:Metal
There is a very good table at the end. By the way: find a better axe. Silver is the worst for edged weapons.

Nooo! Poor Seto. All he wanted was to be evil. Well, now that he's useless in combat we definitely need to equip our friends. The reason I thought it doubled skills was because when I looked at the skills of the vampire we swapped to they were all novice, so I assumed they'd been doubled from dabbling. But I guess we was just a novice of all trades. Anyway, if we could just become a vampire, maybe it would help a little to make up for being cursed. Damn curse :'(

Well it's good to know we don't have to worry about the being crutches in towers. I won't go near one without being a vampire anyway. And about world-gen, I think size and history are both pretty small/short, but with everything else set to very high.

Our weapons are the worst? D: I just thought they were cool. I guess it really has been too long since I played DF. Ok, gotta get new weapons. Thanks for all help both of you!

Indeed a bronze halberd or dwarven steel battle axe would be infinitely superior to a silver axe. At least you can slap them to death, though!

You should search for a crutch for Seto, and begin wandering around until your crutch walker skill improves and you can move at a decent speed.

Err, in even more depressing news, according to the raws extracted from one world (and the fact that they all seem to be identical); because you've been cursed by a mummy you will A) never again be able to live without fear of 20% of your skill rolls failing completely (missing several in a row was an act of horrible, horrible luck) and B) CANNOT BECOME A VAMPIRE because curses, werebeast syndromes, and vampirism exclude one-another.

Sorry, mate, but Seto will never fulfill his dreams. Or live for much longer, for that matter... :-[

So, that would mean that becoming a vampire (or werebeast) grants immunity to curses? Well, now I know what to do before raiding tombs. In fact, at this point I don't see any reason not to make all my adventurers become vampires as soon as possible...

I see... He has had a very hard time since he got that curse. But now I guess it's finally time for him to give up on his dreams. We've already recorded the next episode though, in which both we and Seto are blissful ignorant of this. We'll try to get it up soon. Youtube was very difficult with episode 10, so hopefully that doesn't happen again.

What I've learned from this is to never visit tombs :P Unless you're a vampire. Which yeah, it sounds like everyone should become vampires!

Some things I noticed:
Some animals, like ravens, are too small to butcher.
The (u)se command works only for levers and wells right now.
Also, if you want to know what your companions are doing, use (c). That way, you know the general direction where they (or their corpses) are.

You can't become a mummy without the use of the bodyswapping utility, though, and that can bring about some other bugs. Aim for vampires, then when you've successfully become one, you can travel to a necromancer's tower and learn the secrets of life and death without fear because vampires are undead. Just don't bring your freinds... They will be slaughtered mercilessly unless they ALL became vampires with you. You can slaughter the zombies in the tower, though, and raise their corpses as your own minions. The same is true of mummies in that they don't mind if a vampire takes their stuff. You can also get quests from necromancers, and maybe recruit them if they have a military background, but I'm not sure about that...

Also, the best material for a shield is copper. This is because all shields (of the same quality) have the same chance to block, regardless of material, and because copper is the densest material available for shields, which means your sheild can be more effectively used to bludgeon your opponents.

Some things I noticed:
Ah that's good to know. Too bad there aren't any levers to play with anywhere... Maybe I should make some in a fortress before we start up again... Maybe I should make a deathtrap for myself to explore.

I guess everything else should go in a spoiler tag.

EDIT: All that necromancy stuff sounds great. I really hope we can recruit them.
