Adventure Mode Newbie Questions.
« on: February 15, 2012, 12:56:16 am »

Ok, so I'll probably have quite a few eventually, but seeing as a part of the fun of DF is figuring things out, I'll start with only one question.

Namely, how/where do I find shopkeepers?

From the 'T'ravel map, you can look for towns (from the 'Q'uest interface you can move the marker to see the surroundings). They are filled with shops.

Do they need to be a certain size or something? The region im in is filled with tons of hamlets, but I have yet to see anyone living there labeled as Shopkeeper, or any building that looks other than a hovel filled with people and no furniture, barring the occassional bed.

You have to find a town. Hamlets are no good. Which sucks.

Ask which way the capital is.

Haha ok. Well maybe I can manage to make my way through days worth of wilderness with nothing but a small handful of badly geared villagers to get to town.... ;)

Ok, so next question.... is there a way to butcher / prepare all these dead wolf parts I keep leaving around? Basically, we start with so little food/water and the town is so far away im afraid I may run out of supplies before I get there.

Incidentally, the aforementioned long travel ended gruesomely at the hands of some warband leader, haha.

Edit: Hah, found it in keybindings. I guess its x to butcher. Now to figure out how to draw water from wells.
Edit2: Ah well figured that out too. Wasnt obvious, haha.

    How to use a well:
    • Stand adjacent to the well.
    • Type u to interact with the well
    • You should get the option to lower the bucket, do that.
    • Type u to interact with the well again.
    • You should get the option to raise the bucket, do that.
    • Type e, to "eat"
    • One of the options should allow you to drink one of the ten units of water from the bucket.

I have a quite Newbish question.

My quest tells me to go a dungeon but where are they? Are they in the fortresses or just around the cities?

Is there a way to take the water from the well bucket with you?

Do I need to feed and water my companions? If so, how do I do that?

You can take water from the bucket if you have a water skin. Just use advanced interact ('I') and chose the water skin while standing next to the well.  Any way, i keep dropping my water on the floor since i try to ('d')rink it instead of ('e')ating it :D

Ok so my question is: How do I take out things stored in cabinets? ('g' 'u' and 'I' does nothing ;/)

If I recall, someone filed a bug report about that. Apparently, there just isn't a way to get stuff out of cabinets at the moment.
