Is my Biome actually terrifying?
« on: February 14, 2012, 10:12:39 pm »

Hello everyone, i just got the new release and am very excited to play it, however i've spend considerable time trying to get the ideal set-up for my fortress, that is a terrifying Biome, next to a tower, after many many world gens and test embarks i think i found a good spot

However now i'm paranoid, during my test embarks one of the terrifying biomes i embarked on was writhing with tendrils, and immediately began raining elf blood, so i thought "perfect!" but that spot didn't work out. so now with my "ideal" location, it says its a terrifying biome, i even saw some blood gnats, but i've seen a few dragon flies, and all the grass is green and no zombie creatures nearby and then it rained normal water so now i'm paranoid that this spot wont have the raining blood and "evil mists" i'm looking for

I was just wondering if someone could put my mind at ease, as since i'm starting a above ground fortress, it would suck if i wasted a bunch of time when i actually needed to go to a more specific spot

Make sure your embarking on the biome with the "evil" stuff.  There are often places where a neutral biome and an evil biome are literally next to each other (ie, a neutral mountain/plains and an evil plains/mountain).

I, too, have embarked on a terrifying biome. In my experience, I've never gotten the zombies and death and all the other fun stuff to go with it. This one, in fact, seems kinda normal as I got some plain old thrips people and the grass is very green. It's looking up now, though. The ground is completely red with dwarf blood and there are rotten pond turtles chilling out a ways away.

Edit: actually, they're just dead and rotting pond turtles...I...I hope this dwarf blood has no ill effects.

In my experience I've never gotten a "perfect" evil biome in my plays of Dwarf Fortress. There's usually always something missing; the grass is green, no zombies, etc.

My first evil embark so far has not yielded any undead or get any blood rain, however I've had to fight ogres and I've gotten vile smoke passing by quite often.

Darn shame there isn't any good metals in the ground, apparently. Only got nickel so far. Bloody useless.

My first evil embark had zombies, gigantic dust clouds, and evil rain.  None of the 5 since have had anything good but "acrid rain" all the time (and about 5 dwarf child migrants for every "real" dwarf in the latest one... murder gonna happen)

Gah, no zombies. I'm going to keep trying until I get them.
