I have a diety hanging out in a fortress printing books non-stop. He's apparently some sort of creepy looking hamster humanoid and his favorite book topic? Trees. We have:
The Tree and the End of the World
More Trees
The Book of Trees
Even More Trees

Those are just the ones I remember. He has others on other subjects but he has this strange fascination with trees and tree related topics. Every time I take one of the 30 or so books he's written that are scattered about the fortress, he throws another copy on the ground in the same place. I wonder if his love of trees stemmed from the fact that he spends all his time cutting the things down to print more useless copies of his book so I can throw them at wolves.

Just wait. Eventually we'll get "Where Armok Went Wrong", "Some More of Armok's Greatest Mistakes" and "Who is this Armok Person Anyway?", finally finishing it with the Carp Fish argument "Well, That About Wraps It Up For Armok" by late philosopher Urist McColluphid.

It's treated as completely normal because this is Dwarf Fortress.  There's absolutely nothing wrong with surrounding yourself with a wall of flames, only to later realize that you're surrounded by a wall of flames.
There's nothing that can't be solved by hurling fifteen roc birds at it.

"The Dwarves Washed"

Obviously this is some sort of lovecraftian horror tale unfit for dwarven eyes

I mena it involves being clean and washing and general having basic hygeine without having a reson for it - i.e theres no extreamly deadly FB poison going around equipment.

Maybe necromancers don't actually learn the secrets of life and death because they fear their own mortality, but because they are so lazy they just want undead servants?

Clearly he's trying to determine if Dwarves are bound by the same natural laws that hold Humans back or not.

spoilers: the answer is not.

A man would see that as a difficult challenge.
An elf would see that and despair.
A dwarf would see that and say, "Bring it on."

And no comment about the necromancer's surname of Glossclimax? And the tower's name is Glazedrink? Glossclimax? Glazedrink? Did the forums grow up while I was away?  ;)

I opened up the raws for books! You can add additional book-titling rules.

For book_art:

[ADJ] was [NAME]
[NAME] the [NOUN]
'[PHRASE]'
Hear the [PHRASE] of [NAME]
The Death of [NAME]
The Life of [NAME]
A Biography of [NAME]
In the Time of [NAME]
[ANY_PRONOUN] Found [NAME]
One [NAME]
[NAME]!
[ANY_PRONOUN] Saw [NOUN]
Histories of [ADJ] and [ADJ]

And to book_instructional:
[NAME]: The Musical
[NAME]: The Absolute Knaves' Guide
[NAME]: Why and Why Not
[NAME] Forgotten
[NAME] Revealed
To Bring Forth [NAME]

I should probably test those... I'll get around to it as soon as I can get a world to generate without crashing...

If you had that name, you'd want your book to be taken seriously too.

"First the Master, then the world"
 "Misery and other Travesties"
"Start your day with Basko Thirsthaunted the Trifiling Nightmare".
Written by squirrel or otter demons.

Don't worry, Mego and DrKillPatient may live, but everyone else must burn to death NOT IN MAGMA, but in a crowd of thousands of flaming cats, all waiting to adopt their own personal flaming slave that screams like a dying whale!

Do Necromancers carry their slabs/books when they attack your fortress?

Actually, what's the requirement for a Necromancer attack?
