Can't say I'm in full support of DFVD, but ah well.

Anyhoo, a little change in Dwarf Fortress mode I found is that once a job has started on a designation (like digging or chopping a tree) you can't cancel that designation. This was unfortunate once I changed my mind about having those channels, but alas.

Yes. I noticed the same thing.

...That may be a bug.

I'm pretty sure you weren't able to do this in the previous version...

That can be done with economic rocks and ores, too. I guess for a few rocks it could make sense, like polished marble.

Huh... Nice addition, then. It'll certainly help get rid of spare boulders.  :) Obviously I don't know a thing about jewelry.

Hair grows after you die. In real life this is supposed to happen, but hair only appears to grow because your skin shrinks, or something.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Her head was clean-shaven before.

Noticed this because she was the only non-vampire to survive a 49 zombie, two necromancer siege through a unique combination of good physiology and good psychology (highly adventurous, acts impulsively, confident under pressure, frequently depressed, risk taker and thrill seeker), to where she actually enjoyed the zombie apocalypse and killed like, hella zombies and ENJOYED IT before she was eventually swarmed and killed.

Oh, and this is why you want to put vampires in your military:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It's this guy vs. like 110 zombies. The only other living things in the fort are another vampire in a hospital bed, haunted by the ghost of a baby he killed, and currently being ineffectually killed by a zombie, and a dwarf in a cage with two broken legs.

This new release is SO the shit.

By comparison, my Mace Lord dwarf "only" killed 34 zombies, including former comrades and family members.

The fact he was willing to put them down after knowing them so long shows incredible mental strength on his part.

Interesting observation:

Raw stones and clay show up for cutting and encrusting in the jeweler's shops now.
This is prbably a bug, but I thought I would share.

Evil Clouds can't cross into a biome they are not from, they'll simply dissipate and reform on the other end if another biome crosses into it's path

  • Tombs, filled with plunder and bodies.
  • Campfires (used to heat frozen waterskins)
  • New shop mechanics (items teleport instead of you having to pick them up)
  • Usage of special attacks/abilities in adventure mode
  • Dungeons under the keeps of city castles
  • Books.
  • Rivers and pools now have ramps
  • Multi Z Level Designation
  • Tonsa new animals (I've seen more new animals than old animals so far)

- Best weapon againist zombies - hammer. Axes are ok, spears suck, hammers kick ass! Swords and maces are to be tested.
- Corpses seem to reanimate on tiles belonging to evil biome only. Just a few steps to another biome - and it lays still.
- Dwarf killed, reanimated and killed again requires two coffins - one for dwarf and one for zombie

I just saw a guy with two broken legs push a minecart with a corpse in it. Yeah.

Are there still bogeymen in Adventure Mode? I haven't been able to get them. Instead I just "feel uneasy"; I haven't figured out if that's a danger sense or a hunger sense. If it's a danger sense, the danger has yet to materialize; maybe I need to use advance genning to get a more evil world. Then again, I was playing Adventure Mode mainly to see what graphic is used for necromancers and to get a screenshot of bogeymen; I'm sure I'll learn more as time passes.

I did also notice, nonetheless, that you may not (at least under certain circumstances) have to manually pick up things you trade for in the new markets! I traded something in my backpack (I think it was my large dagger -- who needs it when swords can be used for butchering?) for some food, and the food moved to my backpack automatically. If it swaps them out or adds them to your backpack no matter what, therefore simplifying the process of trading, I will be very, very happy. (I used to methodically clean out the shops in 31.25 of everything that wasn't either useless or inferior to something else I have. It could get tiresome having to walk to each table and check if it has any of the half dozen things I bought out in trade for the spoils of my latest exploit.)

Some of the issues mentioned in the posts above are legit changes (cutting and encrusting with rock jewelry), some are probably bugs -- even some related to new legit behavior. For example, I wouldn't expect the game to allow you to cut stone marked as economic; that seems like a rather non-economical use for stone, seeing as stone that's economic usually is used in far more important things than jewelry. However, maybe cutting is specifically added to the "allowed uses" list for these stones... I'll have to check, but first -- does anyone know if we can turn on and off individual allowed uses of economic stones? I couldn't figure out how to in the previous version and haven't tried in the new one.

I have an idea. Let's play a game where you win by being as quiet as possible.
I get it, it's one of those games where losing is fun!
I spend most of your dimension's time outside of your dimension. I can't guarantee followup or followthrough on any comments, ideas, or plans.

Yes, bogeymen still exist.  They ate my second attempt (hyena's got the third).
