Are all Necromancer Towers, Dark Fortresses etc. underground? I've searched high and low for these things, and every time I arrive where my map claims them to be, there is just this big, empty plain. Are the entrances just really well hidden or what?

Goblin dark towers don't exist as far as I'm aware, much like dwarven and elven settlements. The towers you're looking for should appear as I

Ah, that explains it. I assumed the Necromancer towers looked like the dark fortresses, only in a different color. Thanks for the help.

I'm still not finding ANY animals, and I swear I haven't seen any at all except for a bear that attacked me before I was looking for animals. I wander aimlessly in the wilds for hours and find nothing. It's been like this for me since the first new version after 40d.

What is the symbol for cities? The ones with shops, keeps, catacombs, etc?

just run around from one place to another (don't use travel mode). It avoids ambushes and get you plenty animals. I've found lots of birds, boars, bears, lions, ostriches..especially ostriches hehe. Maybe they are running away from you.. I've seen all these animals while sneaking through the country. The moment they spot me, they scatter...

The question regarding ARMOUR in shops, or even at all is one I would also like an answer to. I have a world where even the big cities don't have anything and none of the bandits either. There are armour shops in some cities but they are empty with nothing for sale. Is this a world issue? Do I need to gen a new one? If this is not the case and armour is simply not available in Adv. without making it yourself, then does anyone have a mod that sorts this out? Like any rpg I want to have to earn money and afford basic armour, and then use that to earn more for the next level etc.

With regard to the ANIMAL question, there are some biomes with very little animal life. The first thing to try is sneak (S) while searching as sometimes they see you before you see them and run away, sneak helps you get closer. If you still don't find any then you have a dead area, and should either travel elsewhere, start a new adventurer from a different civ, or gen a new world.

With regard to frequent AMBUSHES, the workaround is to simply slow travel everywhere. There is no risk of anything dangerous apart from wild animals. Your pc needs to be fast enough to enable a reasonable framerate while travelling however otherwise it will make you nuts. It also has the added advantage that you can sneak the whole way (as long as you are sure of arriving during daylight, ie short distances) which means ambush skill++ and also you can see and approach all wildlife and choose which, if any, you would like to throw down with.

Do you have any companions that are dehydrated? that stopped me fast traveling and sleeping

Also, on food, some houses have bags with plands in it that don't list as owned ($rope reed fiber sock$). Find one with strawberries or such and munch away happily untill you find some capybara to slaughter.

I was in a civ capital and could only find one weapon shop and no armor shop. It's best just to pick up the armor lying around keeps (no one minds if you take it), then go into the dungeons under the keeps and catacombs (not sewers; those don't seem to have anything) to get more (I found a high quality spear and shield just lying around).

Where can I find the catacombs? What do they look like?  I got a quest to kill some chick hiding there...

Meanwhile, my adventurer keeps getting ambushed by wolves.  Well, it gives me plenty to eat anyway.

On the city level map, press the "m" to show nearby buildings, if there's a temple, the name will show up in cyan.  The temples are large square structures with a ramp leading up to a roof and a ramp leading down into a pit.  The pit may lead to catacombs (I found a temple that didn't have any entrance to catacombs at all).  There are supposed to be entrances to catacombs in keeps in the cities too, but I haven't seen those yet.

My latest sewer exploration lead to a keep after slaughtering a bunch of kobolds. I wonder if the sewers are always connected to to the catacombs. Then again, maybe they weren't the catacombs, since there were no tombs or corpses, just a lot of statues.

I think I have read that Toady has been implementing TrueType. But what exactly will it bring? I've read that every symbol will be unique so that graphic tilesets will become even better.
CAn anyone tell me what will change?
