The first entrance to the catacombs I found was a 5-level staircase going down from the Exalted Shield's keep.

I saw people were having trouble with grates, you don't have to open them, they just conceal stairs heading downwards, if you use > or < on them they will work just like normal stairs. (Or at least the ones I've found have.)

I'm looking for the entrance to the sewers everywhere, no luck so far. I did find a temple, but it was just a flat square.

Start in a town, get quest to kill a nearby gobbo. follow dirs to the area, and always get ambushed by gobbos either en route, or once i'm there. kill gobbos and try to go back to fast travel mode.

'not until you leave this site', it tells me. so i spam away from where I am, and no matter how far i go, it won't let me fast travel again.

the compass in the top-left tells me how to get to my TSK destination, but even when i'm there (eg. when *** is shown) there are no gobbos in sight, no camp - nothing. and still can't fast travel. :(

EDIT: managed to get 'out of the site' after spamming about 100 spaces in the same direction. it's not a camp/fortress, so does 'site' here mean the region? i.e. entire The Hills of Goblinhood area is the 'site'? And if so, how am I supposed to find a gobbo in that haystack..wait for them to ambush me again?

EDIT2: Here's the extent of the area that shows up at "***".

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The area highlights in the image isn't the area i have to escape to [T]ravel, though. That's much larger.

Notice no buildings or mobs, although this is apparently a "Dark Fortress" site, it appears quite large in the fast travel map, the same way hamlets do (i.e. not like fortresses do).

Found a sewer access on the map, zoomed in and found nothing. I know it's somewhere in the center of *** area, but there's just a crossroads and a house. Couldn't find any temples either, though truth be told it's my first town.
I had loads of lag too, when stray animals showed up. Not only that, they spam the message log considerably.
Bazaar is crowded like hell. Shops are cluttered badly, just like my bedroom...

I just started a new adventure mode to personally experience how different it would be. Turns out the town I started in seemed to be in the middle of a tantrum spiral, as I saw humans in many buildings slaughtering each other. I eventually found a small house with five or six bodies with a flashing, named giant olm corpse. So I guess that started it, but gosh I didn't expect my starting village to be so unwelcoming.

After killing a few people who had apparently gone berserk the other villagers still were fine with me, so I kept peeking in houses out of curiosity. Finally I got to one where I opened the door and instantly greeted a bolt with my face and brain. Alas.

I also noticed that any berserk humans that I killed were added to my "spread news" conversation option. Amusing.

Is anyone else finding a huge number of lairs?  I left one city, looking for a lair, and on my way there, I found probably ten or fifteen lairs all around it, almost blocking my access to the north via the fast-travel map.  Each lair has a naked human in it, who announces themselves, then attacks.  Good training for an elf with a wooden spear, but weird.  Each of them is usually described as a creature of the night who's done terrible things, and only a certain metal will harm it, but all I've run into is humans I killed with wood.  I'm thinking that going at night would show their "true" form, but i'm scared. :(

How do I give food to companions or make them drink?

Aren't they supposed to ambush you in the night? So, you could just frolic outside until one decides to tear your throat out.

So, I frolicked outside until the sun went down... I even went so far as to sneak around the human in circles, so see if they'd change in front of me, but no such luck.  I also fast-traveled away, and no luck there, either.  Maybe they only turn for invasions/murders?  Either way, she killed me bare-handed, because I got rid of my spear for a bronze axe... Somehow the chunk of metal seemed like it'd perform better against real enemies, but it looks like I'd be better off with a piece of wood.

Maybe there is some sort of mechanic requiring a full moon? In fast travel, you see what position the sun is in the sky, and also another which seems to represent the moon - sometimes shown as what appears to be a half moon.

Also, another question: I notice some strange thing in the top left corner of the screen in the travel mode. What is this?

Can we still not merge ammo. I have a single crossbow bolt in my inventory, and then a stack of 11, and I really want to put them together....
