I'm pretty sure some types of stones cannot be polished at all in reality, like sandstone or whatever.
I'm pretty sure animated hair isn't supposed to attack you at all in reality. Do it cause it's cool. Besides it looks like an item encrusted with cut stone is described as being decorated with that stone not encrusted with chabochons. DISREGARD THAT!
But apparently you can make sandstone cabochon

I was exploring a dungeon under a random city´s temple. I got a <<Silver Pike>> stuck through my heart due to a weapon trap. I died.

People complaining about the lack of Dwarf Therapist:

Assign a manager. Every time you get a new dwarf, set every skill except the automatic ones (hunting, fishing)*. Restrict your workshops to the dwarves you actually want working there. Turn off common labors (hauling) for skilled dwarves and give them nicknames so you can find them easily.

You'll continue to produce high quality goods, rarely have to mess with setting labors again, and the peons will take care of menial construction tasks while your specialists are off drinking.

* mining, wood cutting and engraving also recommended

Toady on the main page had mentioned this, bolded for emphasis:

01/08/2012  I found a few more cave-in-on-embarks, based on the aquifer vs. magma and badly carved pits, and those are fixed. I also corrected some issues with how you and your buddies are placed when leaving travel (to avoid inconvenient strandings). The last world I tested had a vampire that managed to get abducted by a gloom troll and turned into a "spouse of the gloom troll vampire", which isn't exactly the best way to say it.

Apparently he fixed this, but it made for some humorous "not the best way to say it" in my Legends mode, like in this example:

Meli Undershades was a man of shadow. He was one of the first of his kind. A large humanoid with lidless eyes. It has a long, straight tail and its limbs just out at asymmetric angles. Its slate, gray skin is waxy. Now you will know why you fear the night.
...
...
In the early winter of 22 Meli changed Nine Playpulley from a elf into a man consort of shadow.

So either apparently this man of shadow has tastes that run to the homosexual?  It made me laugh anyways.  Guess there's no good way to word consorts and spouses with there being SOME confusion.

I suggest using kilokittens. As cats are 10X the volume of kittens. That way, 50 cats would be .5 kilokittens.

100 cats would be 1 kilokitten.

It's things like this that make me remember why I love dwarf fortress.

it really does have a 'losing is fun' effect on the players, we don't go 'FUCKING SHIT! WHY THE FUCK DIDN'T YOU KILL HIM!?' we go 'MUAHAHAHA!' instead.

No, we go 'MUAHAHAHA!' shortly afterwards. We still swear, just in a different tone.

Anyhoo, genned a world, adventured a bit, saved and shut down, the world then disappeared when I went on this morning.
This morning, genned a world, went west to the nearest town, chased some rhinos into the outskirts where they started having a go at the local populace. I thought that I'd try and help, so I got a rhino tusk through my face.
Haven't managed to go on again since.

Using witcher mod, I went on a zombie rampage in a village and when I opened a door I was shot through the heart with a bronze arrow. I decide to make my death epic. I take the guy who shot me and set him on fire, then I reanimate every single bodypart and corpse outside and they go on the warpath. As my status drops to pale  I decide to go out with a bang and fly as high as I can so when I bleed out I'll fall to the ground and explode. Then I notice that I'm no longer bleeding, changing forms reset my status and healed all my wounds.

Bad. Ass.
So, nothing dangerous ever came to my test fort. It eventually starved to death because of a combination of knockout rain and no Therapist.

I had a vampire drain a dwarf in full view of ten other dwarves, then attempt to blame the crime on a goose.  At the same time as a forgotten beast described as a lavender-scaled, green-eyed hare with poisonous breath took out 29 members of my fortress before choking to death on its own toxins.  Not bad for my first new-version test run.

Look again, he seduced an elf.  Probably didn't realize it was a male elf.  Easy mistake to make, really.

Had fun today adventuring around my first world. Dominated by a human civ, with 3 small cities. Stole a load of copper gear from the market and went on a bit of a spree killing the "peasant" inhabitants of lairs around my capital city - legends mode later confirmed them as vampires. Went back to the local city to speak to the local "first pick" and "first tundra" of the local religion based around light. Nice open temple, apparently all the better to see the day by. Enjoyed the slightly crazy layout of the law-givers keep with a big room several Z's up, supported by 2 narrow towers. COnfused by the basement though - why is it overflowing with tooled up goblins?

EDIT: Another adventure, this time deep into the largest city in my world. Worryingly quiet. Found the local temple, and went for a nose underneath it. Apparently some nice catacombs full of peasant skeletons... then behind the next door, 50 elves. With metal gear. This intended or just random?

My worlds are showing races taking others shit. Might be mercs or POWs or something. Or the humans might be puttets

My guess is they were given the option of change sides or die.
They for once decided against mass suicide.

Embarked.
Looked around.
Saw a 27 z-level Candy spire.
Came. Hard.
Attempted to walk to it through the "Snow."
It was not snow. It was frozen ooze. It made the dwarves dizzy, and slowed them.
Kept trying. Some passed out for a bit. Suddenly, a horde of ravens. Raven Corpses, to be specific. And a Wolverine Corspe. Hello thar.
All 20 Wardogs I brought are slaughtered by undead. It begins raining Acrid Goo.
Acrid Goo bruised everything, makes it go unconcious, and suffocates it/kills it from massive damage to everything at once.
Single miner mines one tile of Candy. Dies to a horde of way too many undead after he falls unconcious from the Ooze/Goo.

Welcome back to Dwarf Fortress.

Welcome back to Dwarf Fortress.

That's probably one of the best yet worst stories ever.

Best cause of all that delicious spoilerite.
Bad cause you didn't get to do anything with it.
Good cause imagining the dwarves stumbling around was funny as hell.

2-1. Good story wins.

Before this, I went to kill a vampire. I accused him, and he attacked me. What helped was, the was A GOD in the same room! SERIOUSLY! He said "Mortal, I know why you are here." Then when I accused the vampire, he started chucking fireballs at it! He was a master or something.

Yeah, I don't think physical gods exist in the game yet - so that was a demon masquerading as a god, most likely...
Yeah I thought so, when I looked at his description, he was "a great iguana twisted into human form! etc. etc. Beware its fire!"
