How evil does a Biome have to be to get zombies? I'm on a haunted biome that has nightmarish murder rain but neither my butchered animals nor my corpses have tried to kill everyone.

I embarked on a terrifying glacier populated largely by undead weasels, and now the occasional weasel man zombie that gets raised from their corpses. A couple of nefarious soots have rolled by. The don't seem to flow down staircases so burrows and station orders seem to protect the dwarves.

Instal hatches above your garbage dump pit, they'll dump through the hatch and can't see down in it.
I've tried that, they dump stuff on the hatch, a three or more level deep pit may be required.
Also, tasted new migration system as well, a happy family of six dwarves had come: a lye-maker, a cheese-maker and their four children. Dammit, dwarves, shouldn't there be some kind of boarding school for children whose parents went onto expedition to god-forsaken places like this one?

Oh, wow.
I just realized...

We now have dwarven extended family vacations (or the shortest family vacation ever, depending on how you treat them).

it's random, sometimes you get undead biomes, sometimes blood rain, sometimes cursed mists, sometimes evil creatures, other times, all of them, and others none.

it's random.
Aw hell! If this place had zombies and the rain of nightmare ooze it would be my own little plane of oblivion. Goblins would tell stories of the hellish marshes far to the south where twisted dwarves skulk about ancient tombs while the dead walk the earth and the cursed tears of the dead gods fall from the sky.

OH GOD THE FUCKING RAVENS!

Indeed.  My settlement has crumbled to its end.

It started with the undead ravens that wouldn't stay down.  After a while they were bits of animated raven skeleton, but then they were joined by the reanimated remains of the dogs they killed.  And then camels.  And then dorfs.

Holy cow, haunted embarks are scary now.

I just created a medium sized 250 years old world. Went to check out the legends, and found the dwarven vampire Sibrek Sárekshem.

He seems to be a pretty cool guy, became a king at year 1 and after 249 years he still is one. During his rule he has killed a total of 8259 creatures - and 99% of his kills took place in a city called Gatesling. Yet there is only one notification of him ever being suspected of murder - it was in late autumn of year 34.

DF has restored my belief in vampires.

First thought: "Is it just me or is worldgen slower than it used to be?"

I'm loving the new features, but the improved world gen is really making my computer chug. I used to be able to hit at least the year 150 before seeing a slowdown, but now it's starting to lock up my machine around 75.

aka what this guy said

The giant louse is not only harmless, but there's PLENTY of food to be had in killing and butchering it.

I am currently swarmed by a half dozen giant keas. They steal shit. Time for killing another animal !

Also, still no undead or corpse reanimation on my terrifying biome.

And my woodcutter went stark raving mad, it seems.

Also migrants. Not too much children, including one who become an adult a few seconds after his arrival.

Most of them are useless.
