Who is Footkerchief?
« on: February 13, 2012, 11:30:16 pm »

So in a thread I once heard that Footkerchief is not a moderator. I think Footkerchief was the one who was saying it (answering a question about why he couldn't merge threads). he ( or she I don't know) is famous for policing the suggestion forums, to make sure we don't discuss things again and again, through his judicious use of the search function (which I think most people use before but probably just don’t use as well as Footkerchief). Now if Footkerchief is not a moderator then why does he take it out of his supposedly free time to police the suggestion forums? I mean you can find the guy on almost literally any topic on the suggestion forum. Just to be clear I appreciate what Footkerchief does, it helps use further the discussion rather than rehashing old arguments, when in the suggestion forums solutions have probably already been found at one point. what I really want to know is why Footkerchief does what he does... I’m not just asking for Footkerchief to answer ether if anyone else knows please tell me. You know I bet Footkercheif is going to come in with 4-5 links to different threads all asking the same question I was...

(This would probably get his attention more in the suggestion forums but would be inappropriate there so I just decided to put it here...)

Some people say he's an FBI agent. Some say he has an idetic memory. Some even say he's a sentient database.
One thing's for sure.
The search-fu is strong in him.
For he is Footkerchief.

He will smite you for your inability to search for him :P

For he knows all and sees all. He is your friend. He is Footkerchief.

Clearly, this represents six side-by-side wheelbarrows, as indicated by the right half of the icon.  The left half indicates they are carrying babies with hats in these wheelbarrows.

Presumably, they are lining up to dump them into the baby furnaces.

I might be incorrect but,

He helps keep track of the bug tracker website and has admin access to it.
He sorts through the bug reports  on the bug tracker website to help make sure they are not repeated bug and condenses them. He also has the bug reporters give the correct information or files needed so that ToadyOne will have an easier time finding and fixing the bugs correctly. He also answers forum members questions about bugs and bug related topics, and on information that ToadyOne has discussed in the pass. Overall he rocks. I believe he does this on his freetime because he is very interested in DF and cares greatly about the community. There are a bunch of folks out there that do similiar activities such as keep very important mods running, answering questions on the forums, keeping the wiki running, or host different communities that are not on this website.

These people do not do it for money or fame, but do it because they care about the game of Dwarf Fortress.

*hugs to them all*

I was thinking more along the lines of this legendary champion, all clad in dented and dinged up steel plate, his blood-drenched axe slung over his back, a notch in the handle for every enemy that saw the swing of that blade as the last sight they ever saw, a battered shield strapped over his arm... and a fluffy, pink stuffed hippo hidden discretely in his breastplate.

Listen and understand.  That Footkerchief is out there!  It cannot be bargained with.  It cannot be reasoned with.  It doesn't feel pity.  Or remorse.  Or fear.  And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you have been given a list of previous threads which already discussed your 'brand new' idea.

He is the Foot that Kerchiefs in the night. He is the Search in the Engine. Fear and tremble at his passage!

Although more seriously, what mnjiman said. I'm a bit surprised he's not on the Wiki. And you're right, this has been asked before- I'd go mention it in the FAQ thread if I could be arsed to do so.

Y'know I think Footkerchief would be a good moderator if he was up to it. Atleast that way we wouldn't have any XxjapanxX threads or those weird ones about shampoo. Or at least less of them.
