Let's Play Aurora Blind (Aurora Newbie)
« on: February 13, 2012, 09:34:56 pm »

Edit: Actually, there's so many Aurora LPs going on I'm not going to try this right now. I'll wait for it to clear up a bit. :D Don't need to split their audiences any further.

Hiya!

I've always looked at Aurora with great interest... I'm a huge science fiction fan and I love a good space 4X. I've played through a tiny bit but I tend to lose direction pretty quickly. I have the basic mechanics down, so it's not a 100% blind LP.

So, I'm going to entrust lots of decisions to anybody who wants to participate. Including the game settings. Please, be as cruel or as kind as you like in your 'help'...

I'd like to mix up the generation so it's not a totally smooth ride, so I'd like it if each person contributes only three game settings. First come, first serve, and once the suggestions slow down I'll leave whatever's not chosen as the default.

Turn on invaders after 30 years.
Start with Transnewtonian tech, but zero tech points to assign.

Can't have too many Aurora LPs imo :)
Although this is mostly because I seem unable to run the game myself.

Anyway my choices would be:
Sol Jump Points: 0 (random)
Starting Tech Points: 0

Spacemaster Empire

This option does say not suitable for newbies. (I have no idea what it actually does)

It isn't so much a 'challenge' as it is 'spending hours mucking about trying to figure out how to create a good solar system, make a habitable planet with proper mineral resources, design a species with enviromental tolerances that will allow it to survive on the habitable planet, and then set up all of the proper industry for the level of civilization you want to start with, before finally starting to play the game, with exactly zero differences between it and playing a normal start with the same level of technology (apart from starting in a different system and having slightly different base environmental tolerances)'.

Nah, it isn't a big deal or anything. It's the sort of game where you learn by asking questions and making (constant) mistakes. If you're talking about not being able to play because your monitor resolution is too low, *points at sig*.
