Dig into the mountain real quick, then build a wall over the entrance. This will give you enough time to think of something.

Dig towards the undead, and seal them in the mountain with you. Re-enact mountains of madness.

MAGMAAAAA
Doesn't work.

There is no problem, no matter how small, that cannot be solved by an appropriate amount of magma.

the problem here being it'd take more dwarfpower than he has available to get it up from the core.

That, and I never did figure out how to properly use pumpstacks. That makes me sad, cause I had ideas for fortress's.

Like a fortress with a flowing Magma wall defense. Or the complete opposite where I pump the water into a giant mold on a very cold map under the right conditions, and then tear down the mold and BAM!, ICE WALL.

I never could work my head around pumpstacks myself, which is a shame... One thing I really wanna do is a magmamoat with traps on both banks.

You can most definatly path to my fortress invaders! Just as soon as those weapon traps stop trying to kill you and you finish melting.

No need for a mold.
If the biome is freezing all year, build stairs 1 z-level up.  Designate pit/pond over where you want the wall, order it to be filled.
First bucket creates an ice floor.  Second bucket creates an ice wall.
By having a pit/pond designation the entire length of where you want the wall, and only one tile wide, the dwarves will progressivly fill the length of the wall with ice.  They will walk on the ice wall tile to cast the next wall section.

This was the most fun for me in a freezing volcano biome.  I cast the surface of the volcano into obsidian, then cast all the z-levels above as ice.  Very cool.

Oh neat, I'll have to try that.

I suggest you take off, and nuke the entire site from orbit!

I embarked in a haunted glacier. The first time everyone died horribly because of zombie weasels.
The second time I managed to get underground and seal everything out fast enough. Now I've got the problem of having no way of producing food, so I'm going to have to see what the caverns look like in a haunted biome..

Sure, its the only way to be sure. But, Urist MCAndroid hasn't been forged yet. Soooo, reaching a minimum safe distance in 3 minutes is impossible.

Damn you Urist McRipley!, always blowing stuff up!
