Accepting Challenges
« on: February 13, 2012, 08:43:11 am »

If anyone has a difficult challenge for me - I'll give it a whirl.
Just post a link with a .zip for your save you want me to continue on.
Just give me a heads up with maybe a screen shot, and set the scene a little for me.
Lets try for vanilla version - so there won't be any weird issues.
If you have any special rules let me know (example: all males must go in the military)
Obviously don't make it impossible!

I'll pick one and keep y'all updated on the status. I am, of course, expecting others to attempt the save too - so toss your updates as well! Let's see what y'all can challenge Bay12 with!

Current Challenges Suggested - since 12:00am Monday (GMT) Feb 27th

Create a fort dedicated to martial arts.  No weapons, no armor, just punching, kicking, wrestling, and biting.  No danger rooms, or modded creatures.  Just normal training sparring.  No traps, and no walling off your fort.  If a warrior reaches Professional in something, send him/her to fight something like a deer, or badger, alone, with nothing but his/her skill.  Trial of initiation, if it's won, turn the man/woman into a master.

The ultimate goal is to create a fortress wide group of martial artists, capable of fighting off entire sieges with no weapons, along with the HFS ( if you choose to do that ).

You must completely seal the perimeter of Cavern 3 using only surface wood, no stones or cave wood, and then flood the cavern completely with water.  Salt or fresh water is up to you.

Vanilla version

Pff, it would have been fun to give you the challenge
- Mod dwarves to lay 20 eggs at a time (it's been proven to work last July)
- Mod dwarves to skip childhood
- Also, set ethic to forbid eating dwarf eggs so they won't eat them (yes, they would otherwise)
- Survive

It is said knowledge is like a foul-smelling herb. It must be cooked well and thoroughly with experience to make it palatable. A young scholar's knowledge is therefore not only worthless but disgusting. -- In Dwarf Fortress you have another paradigm. Gather as much of that smelly herb as you can and toss it at your enemy, fracturing his skull through the +capybara man leather cap+.

set population cap to 10, survive on children being born

ethical treatment of animals:
all tame animals must be adopted as pets, or at least may not be slaughtered: buy meat from caravans or kill wild animals. Do not keep more than one animal caged per cage

Is there a separate ethic position for egg-eating or something?
I guess food stockpiles should be set not to take dwarven eggs anyway.

-snip-
What challenge?

All of them.
Eventually.
Currently working around ways to stop someone's DF Masterwork game from crashing to desktop. After that...

That didn't succeed. Going to try the MARTIAL ARTS fort now. And then breach HFS with ninja dwarves.

I'm liking a lot of these ideas.
Any maps, or forts already made/settled in .zip form I should use?
Any embark profiles set I should use?
I'll give it a bit more time for brainstorm and map making before I finalize anything. Thanks everyone.

Generally you are free to gen your map to your heart's content due to the lengthy upload procedure and cause it's hard to verify map quality.
