To test the roasting chamber?

Yeah, throw that dwarf who made the blowgun in there. It's a dwarfy death anyway.

After that, and when elves come, you should make the roasting chamber easy to see; a glass window, perhaps, in a zoo or something. As dwarves walk by, they might be lucky enough to witness an elf die an excruciatingly painful death. The idea of a huge holding chamber containing live elves, and dead elves for "nourishment" as the elves are eventually sent, one by one, into the roasting chamber- priceless.

Testing is the fun and easy part. Just throw in useless people :) Like the makers of all these artifact crafts and useless weapons.

A zoo featuring elves eating their frying comrade's flesh? LET'S DO IT, FOR SCIENCE AND ALL THINGS BLUE AND EXPLOSIVE!

dorf me,
name Wynz
gender Male
prof Speardwarf

can be some squad captain

Excellent, I JUST added a dwarf to the legion, er, military. The new captain of the autonomy of mining. The former captain was an axelord who slew half of a goblin invasion singlehandedly.
Or, if you want, you can have the spearmaster Greybeard, I can change your dwarf to him.
Wynz is currently an adequate speardwarf.
Here are his thoughts and preferences:

Unfortunately, we have not received a dungeon master yet, and as we are in year 7, I doubt we will ever.
I don't have any animal caretakers, but I do have two animal trainers. The first one is a legendary trainer and [legendary] woodcutter. The second one is a high master trainer and master furnace operator. Would one of these two work? They both have the animal care professions on.

From the journal of Wynz,
Sometime in autumn,

Ah, the arena. First I battled hordes of crundles, and just today I slaughtered trolls that our cage traps have caught. Feels good, man. Can't wait until I go up against some goblins. I'm already a proficient speardwarf!

Two engravings have been attached to this journal entry:

Fun fact: That goose has been over there for years; ever since I built the arena. Guess it's taken a liking to living under a bridge.

Spoiler: "Weiss (click to show/hide)
I just noticed that Weiss is also a legendary wood crafter, and the creator of "Ghostwinter the Cradled Conqueror" a chestnut earring, our first artifact.

It's been a while. Time sure flies when nothing special is happening.

The engineers finally got around to building the drainage pumps. The miners cleared a path from the gearstack to the pumps, and the engineers are working on hooking up the pumps to the gear stack.

Wynz, formerly Sper, don't know why he changed wat he wanted people to call him, has been slaughtering creatures to save the butcher some time. Er, I mean, he's been training in the arena. Apparently he aspires to be a spear master. Good luck with that.
14th Timber, late autumn, Ho-oh produces another child - that's four to date. The female baby looks healthy. She's just average in size, so I guess she won't do for the dwarven chopped liver surprise special the sadist chefs are planning.

Today, 15th Timber, I sat down and said to myself, "HEY, WE HAVE LOTS OF CRAP STONE LAYING AROUND. LET'S BUILD A BIG WALL ALL AROUND OUR FORT OUT OF THAT STUFF."
Then I had the miners start flattening the top part of the map. Actually, I can't decide if I want to build from the top down or the bottom up. Heh, I don't care. I just want a wall.
Shortly after that, I remembered the drainage problem we had at the roasting chamber, so I didn't designate any more mountains for levelling.

16th timber, a caravan from another mountain home arrives. Might as well get rid of these extra crafts laying around.

19th timber, a human diplomat arrives. I wonder if she's here to discuss tribute offerings.

24th timber, finally finished with trading away crafts and random garbage the sieges have left behind. We got mostly bars of metal, various weapons and armor...

27th timber, an ambush at the northern entrance. No casualties, one caught in a cage, the rest slaughtered on the spot.

28th timber, three snatchers at the souther entrance. Should make a nice addition to the prison.

Finally, winter has arrived. I'm done writing for today, catching up on all the events that have transpired. See ya all at the end of the season.

------
One last thing, a snatcher just tried to run off with this journal. Hah! Fat chance.

Sorry for the late update. I obtained a sore throat yesterday that killed my thinking functions well into this afternoon.

Alright, sir. I shall make you a silver warhammer and stud it with lead.

You aspire to purify the world of goblin stench? I'll have to soak your hammer in air freshener.

I'll assign your dwarf after I get the hammer made.
May take a while, as I've never studded anything except random furniture with forgotten beast bone.

I SHALL BURN DOWN THE HUMAN LANDS AND RAPE ALL THEIR TREES. I MEAN CHOP THEM DOWN.
AND THEN BURN THEIR LANDS AGAIN.
AND THEN DOUSE THEM IN LAVA FOR GOOD MEASURE.

Ya, so, I had Wynz practice his spearing skills on Iguk Leadmusic the law giver. Let them all burn down in their wooden cubes for all I care.

Full update will be coming sometime soon. The game's been running at ~ 3 FPS for who knows what reason. Maybe I forgot to kill the cats or I dug too much. Or maybe the world genning for 34_02 is eating my cpu.

Ugh, more snatchers. I'm getting tired of this. The prison already has 3 cells, I don't want to make more.

Ston Dumatakmam the marksdwarf gave brith to a girl on the 8th moonstone. Our population is back to 200.
Odd. Does Armok not want me to own 30,000 slaves?

A dwarf ran up to the metalsmiths a while back with an unusual request. The same dwarf also sent a request to join the military as a hammerdwarf. Interesting. Delioth is his name.

Time began to slow down. The messngers speeds on down the cavern, towards the butcher's quarters. He slams the door open, throwing it off its hinges and smashing some random pet. He shouts in a frantic voice, "GET YER LAZY BUM UP TO DEM BUTCH'RY SHOPS AND MAKE US KITTEN SAKE. FOR THA SAKE OF ALL THINGS !!DWARFY!!" The butcher throws down his cleaver into somebody's pet and jogs out the door, fat belly bouncing around more than Santa Clause on a rollercoaster.

The butcher then began to chop down kittens left and right. Cavy boars, capybaras, krundles, ducks, geese, and chickens all joined the slaughterfest.
Time soon reached its normal rate. Some scientists even say that the calender is now a season off thanks to Idenbisek the butcher.

After the time warping incedent, I put the mechanics to work mass producing kaolonite mechanisms for the magma operations. Turns out we have to dismantle many things due to flaws in the drainage system and the magma feed system, and replace some stuff we're not certain are magma safe. This will put us a good season behind schedule.

Mahib Zlercog the woodcutter furthers our population with the birth of a boy.

Ah, Delioth. You were but a simple fisherdwarf. Then one day, you requested a silver warhammer be made and studded with lead to, "purify the world of the Goblin stench." The weaponsmiths came and handed you your masterwork warhammer of poisonous death. You donned your exceptional adamantine armor and recklessly rushed into the arena and had it rain goblins. Left and right you smashed everything. One of the goblins managed a lucky strike - a mere thief! His large copper dagger sliced your right upper arm clean off. What were you to do? You proceeded to run around the arena shouting while pummeling everything. You then leaped down the bridge and off to the still as everyone around you gave into their pain. Your fellow warriors came and cleaned up the mess you left behind. The chief medical dwarf grabbed you and started hauled you off to bed, but you pushed him aside and chugged down that ale.

Herp Ulzestoddom the weaver looks intently at Delioth's hammer, and a silly smile spreads accross his face as he imagines the goblin filth being purged from the land with the masterful silver warhammer encircled with bands of lead. He runs off from the arena gleefully laughing like a maniac.

Herp kicks out a clothier from his shop and starts grabbing assorted items.

A few days later, out came rope reed fiber trousers.
I hate him.

Fathom the Speardwarf brings our forts population to 202 with her new organic meatshield. How many battles will this boy serve in?

Oh, that's right, at one point or another, there was a random forgotten beast. Pff. Made me get up from my adamantine throne to command Kosoth to send out one of the newbies to train with it.
It was slain without any losses.

Well, that's all folks!
See you after the new years!

Ah, finally managed to finish winter.
Now the fort is entering its 8th year. From 155 to 163, a lot has happened.

The roasting chamber is almost done. I just need to fix the floodgate screwup and then seal off all the unneeded access points.

Some brat named Shorast Ibrukoddom infiltrated the base. Sheesh, I want slaves that can work, not brats that spend the day idling.
Heh. Some day, though, I might have a use for this girl.
Shortly after, a boy joined the forces. Hmph.
AND ANOTHER GIRL. Is there no end to it?

------

The dwarf throws the stone tablet at the ground and it explodes into millions of tiny pieces. She then pounds his fist on the golden table in front of her. "Dammit", she says between clenched teeth. "I need more slaves!" She leans back in her chair and lets out a long, drawn out, sigh. "The iron curtain...I'll only see the iron handkerchief at this rate." She looks at her feet. "The research department is staffed 0. When will the great barbeque be accomplished?" She exhales through clenched teeth. "Not in my lifetime, with my current resources. I need more slaves..." She looks up. "And iron. Lots of iron."

-Two weeks later-

Zon stood on the precipe and looked down. She turned to the hapless engineer standing next to her and struck him in the face with the back of her fist. "Fool! The pump is facing the wrong direction!" Zon turned and walked away. "I expect the engineers to have this hole filled with magma by the end of this month." She stopped and looked at him over her shoulder. "Did I make myself clear?"

------

Excellent! My request for slaves went through, and the delivery arrived today, the 24th Granite. This should be good.
206...Finally, we've surpassed 205! That's what the first slave, a fisherdwarf accomplished.
Good. If all goes well, I'll hit three hundred slaves by the end of the year. Which reminds me - there's only one free block left in housing quarters.
2...3...4...5...Good, keep going!
What? Was that guy the last slave? No more? I am dissapointed.

Well, in other news, Zentou Mzirkeskal ascended to elite markmanship.

------

Iron. There's no such thing as enough, is there? The miners are busy searching for lots of that stuff. I'm going to need it to make this mountainhome live up to its name. It seems like the caverns lack iron. Dissapointing. That means the surface is going to have lots of holes in it. The problem is, there probably won't be enough iron even if every last vein is mined. Oh well. Only time will tell.

------

Today I just got the most hilarious report:

------

Some kittens were born, a bad omen.
Shortly after, an elven caravan arrived. It is indeed a terrible day. For the elves. I'll wait for them to unload.
Anyway, another forgotten beast appeared shortly after the last one. Heh. It's hunting down kittens. Good fortune for sure!
It didn't manage to catch anything except a face full of silver bolts decorated with honey badger bone.

------

I looked outside and saw the elves had arrived at their deathbed, so I set Wynz to work putting them in bed.
He gained the name, "The Cunning Conflict" as a reward for spearing all the elves with his masterful skills.

------

That's all for this seasonal report. I look forward to what awaits us in the upcoming summer months.

That took too long.

The queen got stung by a bee today, and she walked around the whole fort heralding her complaints. Pshh. Just she wait until she finds out who the real queen is.

The 19th Hematite comes and a large scaly toad arrives. We treated it what we give all our guests - a face full of adamantine bolts.

12th Malachite, another shipment of slaves arrived. Yay.
Darn.
They shortchanged me again - only 4 slaves.

12th Galena, Mang Beresmul Mersethishlum Sodel the swordsdwarf bestowed the name "Thosbutlesast upon a copper short sword.
Copper? Really? That's way back from the first year of our settlement. What's that guy doing still wielding that garbage? Pff.
Though I do commend it for slaying Slobu Lightningwhisper the forgotten beast, among its eight notable kills.

14th galena (if I recall correctly) until 21st Galena were days of war. The humans came. I didn't care much for them other than one of the squads that arrived, which I'll call the northern army, were interupting the iron search. The miners were alright, deep inside their caves in the cliffside, but the foolish peasants kept running out there trying to grab the iron the invaders were standing on. I can't stand the loss of more slaves, so I sent out two squads to deal with the northern army. Sure, I could have activated red alert, but that'd disrupt work all over. I did forbid the peasants from running to grab that iron, but they did it all the more. Perhaps they were actually trying to grab socks. I don't know or care.
The results of the clash were expected - victory for me. However, I did lose one marksdwarf, which made me take a second look at the dungeon.

First, I ordered adamantine statues to be placed in one of the large rooms. I'll probably make it a tomb for somebody.
Then, I had golden doors statues placed throughout the dungeon in the unfinished room.
Afterwards, I had more coffins placed throughout various rooms for holding the dead.
For the finishing touch, I did nothing. The dungeon is far from complete. This is just part of the gradual work done to ensure it's completed eventually.

As for Delioth, he went back to the arena sometime before the siege. All we had available for him at this moment were crundles. I think I had a goblin hammerlord stashed away somewhere...I'll have to check. I'm pretty sure Delioth would love to purge his filth from our zoo. (Note to self: Build a zoo.)
Delioth came out with a few cuts. Nothing too serious. However, it was enough for the chief medical dwarf to fuss over him all day. Personally, I think she just wants something to do.
Perhaps I can tell her to start treating the animals, too. Or maybe order her to bring slain goblins back to life. Hmmm...

26th Galena the enemy arrived at the southern entrance. Just a bunch of hammermen led by a pikelord. The same as the northern group which was led by a macelord.
No casualties occured as the marksdwarfs rained bolts down on the approaching invaders from the tower. No enemies got away, as the last one was slain on the 28th Galena whilst attempting to flee.

The roasting chamber? The end of the season is here, and the mechanics are done linking up the pressure plates. I still can't test the darn thing, though, since the levers need to be linked up now. They're about a quarter of the way done with that task. I wish they'd get done with it faster.

The roasting chamber is almost done! As soon as the two levers are linked (one that controls the drainage floodgates and the other that controls the magma source floodgates), we can finally start roasting things! I'm pretty sure I've caught all the flaws, but we won't know for sure until the grand opening.
Who should we roast first?

This season starts off with a girl being born to a hammerdwarf. Heh. Not again.

25th Limestone another forgotten beast comes.

26th Limestone another forgotten beast appears.
More fodder for the fire, I guess.

6th Sandstone and Delioth is a professional.

28th Sandstone, the next shipment of slaves arrives. Yay. Better get more than last time. I want the population to go from 214 to 230.
Alas, it only reached 217. 218 with the birth of another girl.

12 days into Late Autumn and a vile force of darkness comes over the land.
Delioth, now is your time to shine.

I had Delioth lead the forces into battle against a squad of bowgoblins that appeared to the Northwest. They worried me, since they can shoot at my slaves.
No casualties.
However, I had to keep a squad stationed there since more kept arriving on map.

The logging operations were inturupted by a squad of pikegoblins. I sent several squads to deal with them.
Rembrok the hammerman was slain at the start of the attack.
The rest  of the squad was slain without casualty.

To the east were some trolls. I had the barricaded oceans dispatch of them. No casualties there.

The hospital becxame a busy place, though.
Many peasants were injured by the bowgoblins as they ran to grab socks.

A squad of pikegoblins arrived at the southern entrance. They were dispatched of with no casualties.

The axegoblins were taking too long to arrive, so Delioth met them. I don't think he actually killed anybody, but he did give them a good pounding, that's for sure.
Thankfully, I lost no slaves in the process.

Since everything is hooked up, I sent the miners to let the magma enter the system.
The magma quickly hit the pumps. To my relief, the pumps did not catch fire.
Sincer the magma source control floodgates were currently lowered, the magma was not able to enter the chamber.
To my relief yet a second time, the magma did not build up at the pumps - the fortifications succesfully depressurized the magma!

The time has come to choose somebody to test out the chamber.
Actually, I feel like roasting kitties. I'll use one or two.
Oh! I forgot! I should depressurize the magma leaving the chamber too. I'll have the masons build fortifications there while somebody grabs a kitten and chains it in the roaster.

The end of the season arrives, I must close this journal. Hopefully the surturer will be faster in bringing the kitten next month, the fortifications are done!

I can't wait! It's roasting time! The kitten goes first, since there are too many of them. But after them come the useless artifact makers, rebels, heretics, useless cripples, goblins, humans, and elves.
