Commodore 'Kaos' respectfully declines continuing missions on the survey teams, having felt that she has done her tour learning the operations of space-capable vehicles.  She would like to hand over the ship to someone better qualified so that she can focus on her preferred vocation - that being escort or support duty, even if she has to clamber into a small fighter craft and fly next to a freighter for a few years.  She yearns for a craft with weapons on it.  Well, that and an enemy to shoot at.

(On another issue, putting colonies anywhere where they can grow is a good thing, you should always seek to get as much population as you can.  And further to that, I avoid colony ships with cryo-shells, primarily because they don't generate as much cash as luxury liners.  In my current game, I'm getting about 200 credits, monthly, in taxes from luxury liners, but less than 10 from cryo'ed colonists.  If cash is a problem that is.  Titan is much easier to terraform than Venus, so is a preferable target, it helped that mine had Duranium, Mercassium, and Tritanium in the million ton ranges.)

Problem with using exclusively luxury liners is that you're transporting a few thousand colonists (<5000) per trip rather than 50k, 100k, or what have you. And there's no point colonizing the bare-inhabitable rocks until we've already started in on the good ones.

I'll start adding a proper OOB to updates from now on, but for now:

1x Discovery class geosurvey vessel (outdated)
1x Admiral Peary class gravsurvey vessel (outdated)
2x Sprite class freighter (outdated)
2x Admiral Peary II class gravsurvey vessel (Jump capable)
2x Atlas class freighter

Shipyards are currently retooling to build Discovery IIs and Pioneers (colony ships). Going to work on designs for a civlian jump tender, JGC (once I research the tech for it), and a basic military vessel.

Commodore "Kaos'" request is note; she'll be transferred to one of the old, in-system survey ships to train up new recruits.

As for credits... Well, thanks to the way conventional starts work, we don't have much to worry about on that front for the time being. Our current racial wealth is 471,454. We're spending about ~1/3 of our monthly income, even with pretty much every type of expansion possible going on at the same time. We'll probably break 600k wealth at least before we start deficit spending, which should give us more than enough of a buffer to stabilize mineral income and build up our fleet.

{No need for the cash? .... Fair enough.  Definitely go for the mass transit then... ;D}

Commodore Kaos looks forward to thoroughly punishing training the next crop of useless talented wannabes starship pilots.

I'd like to be capt'nd, I can command a survey ship or something, I don't care ;]

Your game makes me want to play again, but the database bugs and overall sugginess of the game is a bit depressing.

Can do. The second half of update 4 should be up by tomorrow night.

A lot of the bugs have been fixed; I don't think I've had a single error since updating to the most recent version.

Because I am a lazy procrastinating SOB got caught up in a DF mod I was working on.

I'm just going to say that it will be up "soon", because if I set a date or time, I'll feel restricted and start procrastinating.  :P

Don't know if you've noticed, but there has been something of a development in DF, with some slighht surge of interest.  Anything not DF has hit the backburner a bit.

Patience is required.  If that doesn't work, we'll form a lynch-squad, get some pitchforks and burning torches.........

Yeah, I'd be lying if I said that my fortress isn't sucking up any time. Going to force myself to at least write up a couple years tonight though.

Terran Amalgamation Update 5

27 June 2048: The Yves de Bourdeille geological survey team finishes work on Ganymede, and the Discovery is ordered to transfer them to Callisto once it completes current survey work in the Kuiper Belt.

22 August 2048: The first two Atlas-class freighters are completed on Earth. Commodore “Kaos” Gorbatov and Commodore Howard Anderson are transferred to these vessels, both to give them experience with larger craft and to bring the conscript crew up to naval standards. Retooling to the Pioneer class colony ship is expected to be completed in three months.

27 September 2048: Captain Sabina Slutsky of the Discovery dies of “natural causes”. An investigation is launched; in the meantime her XO, Commander Josette Achard, assumes command of the vessel.

13 October 2048: Both automated mining colonies reach 30 mines. Further automines are being produced and converted, though resource limitations will soon halt that.

28 November 2048:
Retooling for the Pioneer class is completed. Two are laid down. Expansion efforts on the Kvaener-Masa shipyard resume.

29 December 2048: Gemma Barlow completes research into a new gas-cooled reactor design. She begins work on a radical new propulsion system with half her labs, while the other six are assigned to Takamura Satoshi, for a proposed field generator which could permanently stabilize jump points (JGs; Satoshi is a DS researcher, but even 20 years in we still have no C&P researchers).

9 February 2049: Sonja Fedotov completes research into missile launcher systems 50% smaller than the norm, but which require 5 times longer to reload. She begins research into a new type of high-yield directed charge missile warhead.

9 May 2049: 2000 tons of capacity are added to the London & Glasgow Co. shipyard. It begins another round of expansions which are expected to be completed in early 2052.

7 June 2049: Earth ceases construction of automated mines. Due to the lower costs, all further automated mines for the foreseeable future will be converted from manned mines. BAE Systems shipyard adds 2000 tons of capacity, and begins adding a third slipway. This should be completed by August 2052. The supply of Gallicite on Sol Comet #3 is exhausted. This is not worrying, as the mineral is used mainly in shipbuilding, and a stockpile of a bit more than 22,000 tons exists on earth, with less than 150 tons laid aside for current production.

5 July 2049: The supply of Corundium on Earth is exhausted. Current projections for mine conversion estimate consumption of 4,148 tons, leaving roughly 17,000 tons in the stockpile on Earth. Usage will be carefully monitored until a stable supply is established.

1 September 2049:
The Lake Washington Commercial Shipyard is completed. Expansion efforts begin as soon as the yard is opened.

25 April 2050: Sir Francis Drake completes the survey of YZ Ceti and transits back to Sol. It sends a report detailing the survey results and Captain Hitomi “Magi”Razan notifies Fleet Command that he will detour to Earth for refueling and then transit JP 3.

______________________________________________________
Short, but there it is. I've set a hard limit for the start of military construction at the end of 2052, so we'll have Ion engines. Should have fighter tech not too much longer after than. YZ Ceti is going to be a nice hub for expansion; hopefully it'll have good minerals as well.

Terran Amalgamation OOB:
1x Discovery class geosurvey vessel (outdated)
1x Admiral Peary class gravsurvey vessel (outdated)
2x Sprite class freighter (outdated)
2x Admiral Peary II class gravsurvey vessel (Jump capable)
2x Atlas class freighter

Still not much happening, but that should change as soon as you get the exploration really going.
Keep it up :]

John Asami Politely declines the notion of Retirement. He believes that there's still much adventure out there to be had, even if it does end in a Nuclear Explosion. (Of course, he doesn't really know there's a chance of that :P)

Which it likely will, assuming my bad luck streak carries on to my Manifestations.
