Little modifications you like to add yourself
« on: February 12, 2012, 02:44:19 pm »

I like to make Plump Helmets inedible raw.
I like to make all plants only grow for one season, and nothing in the winter.
I make a different "mushroom" type plant for each season (except winter).

I like to add a single rare weapon-worthy metal that's better than steel but worse than candy.
I sometimes make a common igneous stone into flux, but sometimes that feels too cheaty.

I like adding a single evil civ that's identical to goblins, but a little bit tougher.

I know these are the sorts of ideas people put in their Big MegaMods, but they always seem to go overboard and add TONS of other stuff I'm not interested in. These changes are quick and easy!

Do you have any tweaks you like that don't end up adding HUGE chunks of newness to the game? I know some people like to tone down the damage of ranged weapons, make animals provide more (or less) meat, make certain animals tamable, add in a couple of their favorite nobles...

I tend to remove [AQUIFER]-tags from things. I dislike aquifers.

I remove aquifers, make cats lay eggs, make every single animal tameable, and add more varieties of dragons than just the generic "dragon" mostly.  I also make a ton more color combination possibilities with the spot/stripe patterns, haha.

Lobster rage fists, Katana, Goblin civs controlled by Rodent men and Goblins, Elf civs controlled by the above and serpent men, antmen + Kobolds... Kobolds don't starve.

Antmen breed, very, very quickly...

And usually some sort of wonder metal that puts adamantine to shame. (Very rare o/c). Oh, and sometimes oddball creatures I have made myself. And maybe use my own custom human civs.

I always remove the aquifer tag. I don't count it as cheating because I'll never embark with an aquifer anyway. Removing the tag just opens up a whole lot of new sites.

My only cheaty thing I do is mod in a metal that is super light, super soft, and as cheap as stone. I make it a free reaction that only requires fuel and I allow it to be used for weapons and armor. This let's me train my metal/black/armor/weaponsmiths at a very low cost (just fuel or magma)

As the OP,I make Plump helmets inedible raw. I remove whips and scourges, sometimes I include an orc civilization that is basically a mix between goblins and humans, and a desert dwelling snakemen civ. Very rarely I mess with materials to make hides, claws and teeth from certain animals tougher, but it is a lot of work so I seldom deal with it.

For those removing aquifers, you may have find problems with the expansion of your civilizations in the next version, as it appears they will only expand to places with rivers or aquifers.

Kobolds don't need to eat.
Dwarves are fascist cannibals.
Elves are vegetarian hippies.
Elven tree diplomat modded back in (the "speaker to the unenlightened")
Humans are enlightened liberals. (Hate slavery, no capital punishment. I like wars!)

I added orcs in the past too but i lost the customised raws some time ago. So does somebody have easy copy-pasta orc raws for me?

I mod fire imps with can learn tag and give them the capacity to breed (I wanted to them to lay eggs, but that's broken at the moment so they have live births) that way the magma layer is much more interesting.
