I'm taking an independent film class, and figured that I'd make watching the weekly movies a bit more lively, if you know what I mean. This week, we're on sexuality/queer cinema/gender issues, and I must watch a movie on this. I haven't seen a single one of those movies up there in the poll. If all goes well, I'll be watching one on livestream with you folks also in attendance. At worst, well, I know which movie to watch. I have until Thursday to pick and watch a movie, and there will be one per week on different topics each week.

What shall we watch, friends?

Both of my votes are for Boys Don't Cry, but I'd also watch Milk.  I've wanted to see the former for a while, and the latter is... y'know, famous and stuff.

Well, unfortunately those are the only ones that I'm given the option of choosing from this week. I might look into Milk sometime, though. I've never heard of it, but if it's famous, I probably should.

Boys Don't Cry and Humpday *blush*

When will you be watching these?  And by what timezone?

If you could knock that time back by 2 hours, I could catch these just as I get home from work, which would make me very happy. In any case, I need to look into some of these films before I'd feel comfortable voting.

While on the subject of sexuality and gender issues in movies, I just caught Kevin Smith's "Chasing Amy" tonight, at the behest of the roommate. At its heart it's comical and fairly racy, but the story itself touches on some social issues related to heteronormative perspectives on homosexuality, the disparity between how bi/homosexual females are treated as opposed to bi/homosexual males, and some notions about the sliding scale of sexual identity. It also includes a pretty accurate depiction of a heteronormative person's first introduction to LGBT, and how the influence of sexual identity expands beyond orientation, affecting your social groups, how others treat you, etc. etc.

Not one of Smith's greatest works by far, nor a masterpiece of cinema, but it was worth watching.

I might be able to knock it back to ~3:30, which is the earliest I would get back from school.

I've never heard of any of them so I won't vote, but I'll likely watch, assuming I remember.

You picked my day off from work, so I'm obligated to watch. By my sense of boredom, mostly. Like the above, I'm unqualified to vote though.

“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

I will watch if I happen to catch it and remember, but I really don't know anything about movies.

And neither do I! I just have to answer a series of questions about it after I watch it and pretend that I'm a competent film student. (Oh the joys of required 'art-related' classes!)

My Own Private Idaho should like terrible Dune porn. I vote for that.

Ack, I should have said "delay it" instead of "knock it back". I don't get back until ~6pm  PDT. I'm just one person, but if it works I'd enjoy catching these, and being all artsy and pretentious.

I've never seen any of 'em either. So I picked two at random.
