Aelis pressed his palms together before his chest, and dipped into a deep and low bow. "Greetings, friend. I thank you for answering my call." he replied looking up from the bow to meet the fairy's eyes. After a moment, he straightened his back once more. "There is a disturbance here, and I suspect foul magic is at play- No, I know it is at play. Either demons, or necromancers. Perhaps both. I was hoping that your senses could better shed light on this."

A) "OK, on three. You go left and I'll go right. Ready?" When Ciena nodded, Morgan would whisper-count to three, then rush out for the surprise attack!

You concentrate. Magic glows dark around your hand, then shifts into red and orange and becomes a ray that flies into the distance.

You miss your mark and implode a blade of grass. The grass is smoldered, and two nearby bears are smitten into flaming piles of ash. There are now three bears left.

They spot you and start shambling over.

You also ask about the plants.

It replies : "Those plants... they are poor, permanently warped creatures... I believe a sacrifice and a ritual were used to create this event. Small plants are either augmented or weakened, and trees loose their vitality... Many of these rituals were committed recently."

You accept the quest and receive a tightly sealed scroll. It has a red wax mark.

You swing the halberd at the man. (12 - 5 = 7) damage. Most of the blow was deflected by his meager armor.

The man swings at your arm. (7 - 7 = 0) - You easily parry with your halberd's shaft.

A) Morgan stayed on the offensive, trying to finish the man off with a sweeping blow to the ankles to knock him prone, followed by a thrust to the chest from the point of his halberd. If his ally was in trouble after that, he would move to assist her.

A. "Thats what you get for accosting complete strangers!"

Irin moves over and goes to get the branch, then she tries to fletch arrows from it, mindful of the other person.

'...Wait, that's what I just did...'

The Fairy had told him very little that he did not already know. Aelis did not say that, though. Instead he gave a small nod. "Thank you for your assistance, my friend. I've one more question, and then you are free to go- unless you would rather stay to render aid. Can the ritual be undone or reversed? Or is there some other way to heal the forest? If you do not know, do you know anyone with whom I might speak that may be able to shed further light on the circumstance?"

"Shows him", Arnois said under his breath.

A)Pluck the chicken and prepare it to be eaten or sold.

You fire another blast. It rips apart the large bear and its cohorts(?), ending the dire bear crisis and also turning a small circle of grass into black ash.

Good thing it didn't burn.

You trip the man.
You then pierce his mediocre armor, slinging your weight into the blow, and also score a critical hit. (18 x 2 - 5 = 31) damage. The man's ribcage is utterly crushed by your weapon. He passes out and quickly bleeds to death.

You look around and see your ally killing one man with some spell, and whirling around to pour some poison or acid into another man. His screams of agony seem to have no effect on her.

It seems you would be endangered if you rush to help her.

You trim the branch into two straight shafts. You notch the end and trim the chicken feathers - which , being able to fly, are actually pretty good. You then use some sticky paste to patch it together.

All you need now is a set of arrowheads.

Obtained two finely crafted arrowshafts.

"The ritual is irrevocable, but it can be neutralized by extraordinary effort. It will gobble up the entire forest and some if left unchecked. However, if someone manages to weaken it by at least one half, the regenerating power of Nature will be able to reclaim this place as her own..." As always, the fairy's words trail off.

"You should try and seek some sympathetic mage or druid and get their help..."

The fairy started fading. It touched Aelis and restored 4 points of mana. "My little, meager gift to you."

It faded away entirely.

You pluck the chicken and hand some of the feathers to Irin, who promptly creates two arrowshafts.

You pluck off all of the feathers and remove the head. You slit its belly and remove the various organs within, then bury them under the ground.
