new challenges?
« on: December 10, 2007, 12:23:00 pm »

i've built a 10 million fortress full of traps, have a strong army capable of defeating the goblins on the open field without any losses (it's nearly impossible to wound champions with legendary armor and shield skill), have all nobles you can get, but i have no idea what to do now. of course i could build even more traps and higher walls, but as long as the goblins do not attack that's quite useless.
does anybody have an idea what to do next? my last (uncreative) project was a golden road from my outer walls to my inner tower.

Flood it with Magma
Start a war with the Humans
Cage 6 Mega beasts and release them all at once
Build a Glass Tower
Build a Golden tower to go with the road
Attempt to Get at least 1 of every possible obtainable animal and put them in a zoo.
Can't think of anymore at this moment in time

Provide central heating for your dwarves, by channeling magma one z-level below the floor. Demolish as necessary.
Choose a nice chunk of your mountain and make it completely straight by mining out huge chunks of rock. Carve a dwarf icon several tiles deep into the side of the mountain to make it Mount Dwarfmore.
Arm your lesser military dwarves with pig-tail clothes and steel swords, and have them spar in front of the nobles.
Build a huge factory out of your main fortress area, and tool it to mass produce something as efficiently possible.

I built  such fortress too (except traps, because i never liked them), and my last project is making a town outside the fortress with 5 tile wide stone block streets and luxurious mansions for every noble dwarf.

Now that sounds like a good idea... not necessarily a dwarf icon, but something that would look really cool)

Mine into the adamantine having "accidently" assigned all the nobles quaters which the demons will have to pass through. For an even greater challenge send your military at the demons 1 or 2 at a time.

Challenge: find formidable magma vent.  Build a tower city with a wood first floor.  Channel vent towards city.

hmm.. how about digging a big open colosseum on a map with a demon pit, then connecting it.  Fight the demons as long as posssible in that open arena with nothing but military dwarves.

Too bad once you walk on the tile it'll go away, find something to carve it in.

How do you start a war with the Humans?  I'll show them to trade their entire wagons' worth of goods for one set of masterwork-decorated masterwork two-humped camel bone bolts...

it's too sad - but i don't have a demon pit and no mountain. but carving an icon into the floor seems to be a fabulous idea. and i will start rechanneling my river - and flood the dwarven icon...
an other thing is building a glass/steel skyscraper - however i will also use other metals as aluminium and gold.

You could use rewalling/floors to build a giant statue.

It's that time of the year again, so I suggest you make a huge Christmas tree. In the right colours. And with blinking Christmas lighting. And of course the star on top. A golden star, mind you. That sprays water all over whoever walks by.
