Tali rolled her neck, cracking it harshly.

"Sucks for you.

How do I know you're not just lying to yourselves...telling yourselves there's a way out, because what's the alternative, right...?

I'm not heartless though...if I can find a way, I'll help you get out. You'll have to help me, though. Help me understand the Winterer. Keep it from controlling me, even. How many among you are willing?"

The voice(s) laughed coldly.
"Little one, Winterer does not control you. You control Winterer. The scores of people we watched go crazy from Winterer were all influenced by the maddening whispers of souls trapped in Winterer...

Don't trust us... Some of us are Evil, some of us are crazy, some of us enjoy destruction...

Still, many feel it is time to get out of this frozen prison...

We hope you do not join us...

Rae walked to the door of the room she and Tali shared and, after a few moments of hesitation, knocked on the door. "Tali? Can... can I come in?" she asked.

Tali heard a knocking at the door, and suppressed a sudden and irrational need to hide Winterer...She settled for hanging it on two hooks on the wall she had pounded in, not trusting to actually carry it all the time.

"...yeah, Rae. You can come in..." She said.

Rae opened the door and slid though it as soon as she was able before closing it behind her. "Um..." But now that she was here, she was nervous and didn't know what to say to the dwarf. Maybe this was a bad idea... She stood still for a few more seconds before crossing to Tali's bunk and sitting down next to her. "How are you feeling?" She had been concerned during the fight, and she wanted to ask that before anything else.

Tali flashed a rare smile, putting a hand on Raes shoulder.

"Fine now, Elf. I've...calmed down. Now that we're all safe. Now that you're safe. Not to say, you can't care of yourself, of course. But...

The Winterer, it's tricky, you know. It knows how to make you feel good, feel like you can do anything. Even if we purified it...it's still very dangerous. I guess we couldn't have hoped for anything better. I know, it took advantage of my emotions. Made me...well, I'll just be more careful from now on.

I'll learn how to control it. I know I can."

Rae put her hand on the one Tali had put on her shoulder, but looked at the ground. "...I'm glad you're feeling better. And... I know what you mean. ...Maybe a little too well." She was silent for a few seconds. "...I just wanted to say that... I'm here for you. I mean. If you start to get in over your head, with Winterer or not, I'll be here." She squeezed Tali's hand, happy with the bit of contact between them. "Because... you are a very important person to me. Tali... I..." she hesitated, not sure if she should say it or not. Everything about her feelings for Tali was wrong. They were both females, of not only different but generally opposing races - she had seen that in the fortress, and if Tali came with them to the tribe of Aue later the dwarf would experience the other side of that conflict - and even if Luke and Rudra had forgiven her she was still an oathbreaker unworthy of love or respect... but maybe she could work hard, and regain her place by earning it.

"...I'll do whatever you need me to do to help you." She turned her head to look at Tali and chanced a small smile. "Because you're my closest friend."

"...yeah, best friends. Together to the end. Well, that sounds a bit morbid actually. Together till forever, better huh?

And..."

Tali ran a hand through her short, dark hair-and took a deep breath.

"...I've not been honest with you Rae. Not been honest with myself, really. Which is to say, I sometimes feel...like there's something more to us, than just being friends. I don't know if you feel the same, but that's me. It's something...Ah, I can't put it into words. Dwarves aren't good at that. But, I'm making a promise to you, Rae. I'm with you. No matter what happens...between us. I'm sticking by you." She grinned.

Her mood turned a bit more hopeful.

"Hey, you're going to be all right now...right, Rae?

You need to smile again, Elf. The world's a darker place without your smilin' mug to brighten it up. And, If you keep shuffling around like a zombie and feeling sorry for yourself, I'm going to knock on a hole in the hull of the ship with my head and sink us to the bottom of the sea, I swear.

Now, you don't want Toman to get all wet, do you?"

Rae chuckled a bit in spite of herself at the dwarf's last sentence as her face went a light pink, and she looked away."I'm... so happy to hear you say that, Tali... Because I feel the same way. But I wasn't sure if... if you felt the same, or if you wouldn't like the idea, or... things like that." She took Tali's hand from her shoulder and held it between her own for a few seconds, before lacing her fingers through the dwarf's. She was quiet, merely examing their hands and the differences between them: Rae's was slender and pale, with long, strong fingers suited to holding an oversized sword and swinging it all day, while Tali's were a bit shorter and thicker, darker in color, but equally skillful, long used to hours of quiet work disarming traps and picking locks.

She looked back up to Tali's face, meeting her topaz-colored eyes with her own emerald ones. "Tali Blackstone, I love you. No matter what happens, I'll stand by you, too."

Tali nodded.

"Now we're going around in circles, you silly Elf. Let's go get something to eat, huh? It'll do everyone fine to see you out and about. Especially your Sister.

I mean, you're looking even skinnier lately than usual, Rae..."
Tali said, chuckling, and elbowing Rae in the ribs.

Tali smiled again, feeling relief...but, there was a still a nagging itch in the back of her mind, a certain cold blade hanging on the wall would not let her forget. Well, it won't get me today, she thought.

Alith walked back to the inn. He was tired of thinking all day, especially with Lucus' comments and his own past ringing around his head. The fact the he could faintly sense elf happy thoughts solved the first thing on his mind, but the two others were his own. He needed to clear his head.

He entered the inn, sat on a table, and polished his bow, deep in thought.

"I don't mind going in circles with you... but you're right, I'm starving. I haven't eaten in a long time... er, eaten more than few bites I mean. Let's go see what there is to eat." She stood, keeping Tali's hand in hers, and led the dwarf to the galley to see who all was there. (Not Toman or Anya, they're both on the deck of the ship right now. :P)

A cloaked man rose, and approached Alith. He tapped on his shoulder. He said in a deep voice, "Mr. Alith, I have a ... 'package' for you. Would you mind following me to my room? The package is there."

In the galley, a couple of sailors, and Azasar, Wheatly, Joshua, and Scion were loitering about. The smell of lightly simmering meat was in the air. Azasar was arguing with Wheatly over the merits of armor and nonweaponviolence. ((Maybe some PCs are there too? :P))

Alith looked at him, and attempted to read his mind. "You think I will follow you simply because you asked me? Who are you and why are you speaking to me?"

Rudra sits at the table in the galley, hands steepled over his half-finished breakfast, deep in thought. Calculating, estimating...
