((Okay, so Bluff is opposed by Sense Motive, which happens to be 7...))

Anya : 6 + 18 = 24
Merchant : 17 + 7 = 24

"Heh, oldest trick in the book: the next door merchant! Like I'd be tricked by that!"

(Anya Sense Motive ! 3 + 1 = 4. You can't tell if he's lying or not...)
(Rudra Sense Motive! 20 + 0 = 20. You have a hunch that he's pulling something.)

((Lucky merchant. Rolling a 17...))

Anya grinned toothily. "Well, your loss then. How about it, Rudra? Feel like taking a quick Dimension Door trip to the next village over?"

(Trying to bluff again. :P Also, does anyone else in the party have good Bluff? If so, I might try to DD out, grab them, give them a quick rundown of the situation, then DD back and have them act like she or he's the merchant. :3)

Anya 13+18 = 31
Merchant 9+7+5 =21

The merchant suddenly looks worried.
"Okay, okay, how's this sound?"

Quill of Transcription - 6600 gp
Angel Down x8 - 660 gp
Pearl of Power (3rd) - 8000 gp
Prayer Beads (lesser) - 10000 gp

((Merchant got +5 because he was on guard. You won by 10 and drove down the items to 80%. the next attempt will get the merchant a +9 bonus, if you use bluff again. Using Knowledge(Arcana) on a single item is easier if you want to haggle more.))

((the prayer beads are at a negligible markup, and we're actually getting the pearl of power at lower than usual cost at this point, but he's trying to sell us the quill at about 189% of its normal cost... and the rolls would be your +18 vs his +16. Go for it, dood! Er, please.  :P))

Anya discretely adjusted the neckline of her robes and leaned forward over the counter, going for a distraction technique available to her and not Rudra for obvious reasons. "That does sound more reasonable, thank you... but what about this quill? I know for a fact I could buy the materials and make one myself for a third of that cost." She actually didn't have the ability to do so, but hopefully he would be too distracted by other things to pick up on that.

(Still bluffing, as per request. :D Am I correct in assuming the base cost of a Quill is about 2500 GP? Also, is this guy selling robes of any sort? I feel the need for enchanted clothing for Anya, and maybe Rae.)

(Ah. For some reason I had the idea that you meant 186% of its base cost, not base cost +86%, and estimated it. My bad. ^^^; )

It's always nice to write a backstory and to make it the character's goal to uncover it. Not even the DM knows the truth!

Spoiler: The journal begins (click to show/hide)

And to think that I haven't even written the Saint's journal. ;D

It probably won't be as long.

EDIT: Oh yeah, this takes place before we purify the Winterer. I'll post actions along with the Saint's journal tomorrow.

((time to plot!))

Sometime before the trip to Hatred Island...

Tali stood in darkness, her axes bared.

"Come on! I don't got all night!" she growled.

A smooth voice answered, echoing from nowhere and everywhere.

"...I don't need to fight you. You'll defeat yourself. You'll betray them...you always do..."

...

Tali woke up with a gasp, her handaxe raised in her left hand. Her eyes immediately rested on the sleeping form of Kanesrae. Back to the Axe. She put it down. Tali wouldn't remember much of the dream, but it mader her uneasy...that day, when the expedition to the island set out, she stayed on the ship-the echo in her head 'You'll betray them...you'll betray them..."

-----------------------------

Riawilde didn't have any dreams. She didn't sleep at all. The closer they had got to the island, the worse the headaches became-it felt like a spike being driven into her head. The spirit realm was screaming, madness, horror...and sorrow. So much, Rias mind was breaking. She was strong, but...not strong enough.

Not wanting the others to see her like that-especially Rae-she had retired to her quarters, Bael tending to her, keeping her from slipping into a deeper dark with kind, soft words and tender ministrations.

-----------------------------

They had watched the others leave from the deck, the three left behind. They all felt a certain cold dread. All eyes watched Rae as she walked away, carefree and happy. Deep down, they knew something was very wrong...Tali lowered her head, spitting into the ocean and skulked back under the deck. Ria almost collapsed, Bael picking her up in his arms and spiriting her away.

And, far away, Bano the Lich chuckled a dusty, mirthless laugh. It was so difficult to forge emotional bonds, he mused...and, so very easy to sunder them. Perhaps he would work on the Wizard next...

(Actually, I think Dwarmin has the wrong idea. >.> @Dwar: Not that you could know, especially since the part where we met Bano is lost, but he had absolutely nothing to do with what happened to Rae. In fact he took a few shots at the demon himself. Personally I believe he's too crazy to do much planning. I mean this might as well have been the fight theme. ^^^ I think he is a bit pissed at Rudra/Saint/Anya for kicking his ass, though... )

((A slight thing - Bano didn't do it! :P Basically, the devils invaded Bano's tower, and one opportunistic devil decided to mind control Kanes. Bano is similar to a Xykon (POWER EQUALZ POWER!) but without the cunning. ))

~~dream

Rudra
He stood in a field. A hundred grape trees grew and became a thousand grape bunches that totaled ten thousand grapes. Ten thousand grapes fell to the ground and sprouted one hundred thousand grape vines that grew into a million grape trees ...

scene change

A grape tree was severed and fell to the floor. The tree shivered and stood up on its branches. It cackled madly. The tree whacked all the other trees beside it and burst grapes that exploded into red, red, blood. The killed trees themselves got up and slowly progressed to attack all the other trees...

((Place = Anarose's library))

~~dream
Kanesrae

A misty border surrounded her field of vision. She was falling. Falling from a great ocean in the ... middle of the sky? It seemed wrong. She somehow knew it was called the Middle Ocean, but Kanesrae knew not of that name. Yet she was, and knew. Falling ...

A sharp pain accompanied her descent into the ocean below. She faintly felt the feeling of bones breaking.

scene change

A wave woke her. Her, and pain. Her pain. She was on a beach. The silver sand was smooth like fabric, and also was cool. She lifted her head, and saw a human who looked very much emancipated from his flesh holding a bony hand out to her. She felt like screaming, or maybe attacking, or perhaps running, but she grabbed it and got up.

"WHAT IS YOUR NAME? WHERE ARE YOU FROM?"

His voice was harsh and loud, but not unkind. She introduced herself.

"My name is Ediacaran. I am from ... the sky."

((Place == Altaria, Middle of Sea))

((GOGO GADGET, dreams as plot device!))

She actually didn't have the ability to do so, but hopefully he would be too distracted by other things to pick up on that.

Anya 17+18 = 35
Merchant 13 + 16 = 29

"Hmm, well, the quill is overpriced, to be honest..."

The merchant hesitates while surreptitiously casting his eyes around.

Quill - 6000 GP.

((Next Bluff DC = 7 + 9. No increased penalties due to distracting 'tactic' >.> I think Anya is pretty, because she has high Charisma, no?))

Luke stretched out his wings as he walked through the streets. People were staring at him, but he knew that it couldn't be helped. Now knowing that he truly was an angel at one point he felt the need to get a more appropriate weapon than the one that he got so long ago. He was thinking of picking up a longbow instead of crossbow, but he had no idea if the merchants in the city would have the kind of bow he wanted. He turned to Tabbytha who was lagging behind, almost as if she were trying to keep her distance from Luke. |"Tabbytha, I don't really trust you, but would you help me find a longbow?"|

Tabbytha trotted up with a sigh. |"I said I would still help, and I meant it."| She seemed worried about his distrust, but considering what happened she was relieved that he still trusted her enough to ask for help.

Taking the initiative he started asking around to find a store that would sell a +1 Holy Longbow (+3 weapon).

"...Might as well go with that price, then," Rudra concedes. He hands the shopkeeper 24,660 gold pieces.
((can the stores/guild sell scrolls of higher than third level? If not, I wonder if I could go sell them the privelege of copying from my book...  8) I suppose I could try scribing scrolls, but the only way I can sell them for profit is to convince them to buy at a markup since any scroll I make would be higher-quality than normally accessible.))
