"Uh, yeah, yeah, she's pretty safe. Especially since Rae's there..." Drake said with a sigh. He'd pretty well learned over the course of the trip to Anarose's Sanctum that Rae and Tali were indeed together and that while the elf was usually sweetness and light she REALLY didn't like it the few times he'd said something suggestive to Tali. The fist-shaped bruise on his stomach was healing up nicely, however. He wondered what they were doing right now.

Kald seemed impassive, or at least unaware of any connotations to what Drake had mentioned.

"Glad to hear it. When you all travel back to your ship, I'd like to accompany you.

I need to speak to Tali, personally. She's going to have to come back home with me. I'd appreciate all your cooperation, and ask you not to interfere. This is a family matter...and one of justice."

Kald then said, in a tone of utter finality that brooked no argument or dissent-that was eerily similar to Toman, in a way.

Drake laughed and shook his head. "No can do, chief. I can think of at least three people who will try to kill you if you want to take her, and most of us will help them." He shrugged expansively. "Family's a little weird like that. You try to take Tali and Rae, Toman, and Rudra will try to stop you. Toman's my brother, so I gotta stand by him, and Rae's sister Ria and her husband will help her. Anya will probably help us out too, and that Alith guy seems fairly protective of the crew. Rudra and Luke are pretty good friends from what I can tell so he'll step in for the wizard, and then Neciel will follow him into the fight."

The young Factotum adjusted the hang of his bow over his shoulder. "Basically I'm saying you're gonna have to explain yourself to them whether you like it or not, and it's gonna have to be a good reason. Come on, I'll take you there."

Kald nodded again, unfazed by what he had heard. It certainly made things more complicated

"You misunderstand. She needs to come back home, to her people. We need her. We need everyone we can get..." He finished, voice trailing off. He walked beside Drake, flipping his hood back up in anticipation of the rain.

"Ah, and I hope you don't mind getting wet, Drake Fears. Nasty storm brewing out there."

"Eh, what's a little rain?" Drake said as they walked through the downpour. "It's good for plants." He put his hands in his tunic pockets as he walked beside the dwarf. "So... what do you need her for?"

Bryce turned his head towards the person Drake was pointing at. A woman, weirdly scarred and in mages clothes. Weird, but he had seen worse in his life.

"Woman. Aquaintance of yours? A helper? Bodyguard? No, you're armed. So who're you?"

He mentally prepared himself for casting, just in case. The woman could spell trouble, after all.

Kald had the slightest bit of trouble hearing Drake over the storm...

"War, Drake Fears. A bad one.

I've been gathering Dwarves-and friends of Dwarves-for almost a year, recruiting them for the defense of our homelands. I've been calling in favors, old oaths..blood debts. One more, now. I saved Tali for last. I'm probably not going to survive the next few years, anyway-and, I'd like to say I at least tried to bring her back before...

Well, I know what you're thinking...but, Soldiers aren't going to be enough. We need heroes. Damn too few of us left, these days. Especially since the stars changed. Everything seems to have gone soft and rotten from the inside out, you know?"

"Sounds like you and I have something in common, then," Drake answered. "I wanted to bring Toman home, too. Things are getting kind of bad, have been since the constellations changed. But I think he's better staying on the Alatria, and I'm following him." He pointed a thumb over his shoulder at the sanctum they'd left. "The wizard who lives there, Anarose, she's been cleansing - or purifying or something like that - these weapons that Toman says can kill whatever lives in that star. So we're trying to collect all of them before everything goes to hell."

He returned his hands to his pockets. "The dock isn't far from here. Pretty soon you can discuss it with Tali herself." The Alatria was - vaguely, due to the heavy rain - in sight, and Drake picked up the pace slightly.

A chill ran down Ikkeeliou's spine as Bryce called out to her. She put her hand into her pocket and tightly clenched a clear gem in her hand. She pushed herself away from the tree and turned towards the group, using the tree to obscure her. "How'd you know?" She paused for a second. "It doesn't matter. I'm looking for the Words That Made Flesh, a book of sorts. Do you have it?" She prepared herself mentally to kill them all one-by-one, but stayed in cover, waiting for them to try and make the first move.

"Words made flesh?"

Bryce smiled. He had never heard of that book, but this woman clearly was searching for an arcane tome. A powerful one too, judging by the fact that she broke into realm of an epic wizard. Either that, or she was mad.

"Perhaps."

A bluff. They were Bryce's bread and butter, and this one would maybe pull more information out of her. But to do that, he needed to draw out this conversation. He decided on an unrelated topic.

"Do you have a copy of the vital pact?"

Kald kept the same pace alongside Drake.

"...ah. I know how we're alike, Drake Fears.

I guess we stick with family...cause that's all we got. Though, I'm trying hard not to think about the point of saving the world if the little part I care about gets burnt to ash and cinder first. Did you have the same thoughts?"

Kald could now see the general outline of the ship against a sudden bright lightning burst, that caused him and Drake to shield their eyes a moment. Not as impressive as what he came in on, of course, but it seemed to be holding up fair enough.

"I'm not... TOO worried," Drake admitted. "Toman always was the biggest and strongest of the Fears brothers, but there's four more left beside me. Dad isn't the warrior he once was either but between the five of them I'm sure they can protect Mom and Shiela. Shiela's husband is a sneaky bastard too who can hold up his end in a brawl, I ran with him for awhile in the Thief's Guild in Aldbarrow..." He trailed off. He'd learned a lot to pick up the slack, and not all of it was strictly legal. "If no one else, I trust Adrien to be able to take care of the family. He's a paladin of the God of Light, you know. And Calvin's the second biggest, second strongest of us. Probably comes from being a blacksmith."

He was just killing time rambling until they reached the ship... which they now had. "Yo! Toman! Throw down the ladder!" he yelled up at the ship. A few moments later the looming figure of the black knight appeared at the railing and tossed a rope ladder over. "After you." He gestured to allow Kald to climb first.

"Don't try and change the subject!", the mystery woman snapped. Ikkeeliou's mind raced at the mention of the book being here. She shook off her feeling of excitement and tried to be rational about it. "Well? Do you have it or not? How about a test then?" She thought about it for a moment. "What's the book about?"

Even if they didn't know she'd have to approach them at some point. She dug her hand into her pocket and grabbed a small fist full of clear gems, trying not to drop them. She pulled away from the tree and stood in the open to get a better look at the group.

Kald took the rungs of the ladder and clambered aboard, glad he put ranks into climbing.

Once there, he looked up at what he supposed was Toman-there was a family resemblance between the two, though fainter than he might have guessed-something about that armor...

He was carrying a proper Dwarf axe, so there was that at least. He swung his own axe over his shoulder.

While waiting for Drake to ascend, he spoke aside to the man.

"Toman Fears, right? Kald Blackstone Dökkarskjöldur. Good to meet you.

Nice axe, by the way."

Bryce raised an eyebrow. The woman was smart, no doubt. His speeching patterns suddenly beecame more eloquent, as he became more focused on the conversation. Moments like these were what he lived for.

"I wouldn't know it. All books belong to the mistress Anerose. She is the masterful ruler of this isle. Why do you think she has it?"

The woman definitly was choleric, and most likely dangerous. Bryce watched her movements. He had seen a similar behavior in hellcats, shortly before they attacked their prey. She probably wasn't going to attack, but he would need to be ready to summon if she should run away.
