(If you want to, sure, but if we need to do rolls then I think the only person with the required skills for this is (probably) Luke. Toman's best dialogue skill is Bluff at +5, and Rae's is Sense Motive, also at +5.)

((No rolls o_O))

A shriek pierced the bustle of the tavern. It seemed to be coming from upstairs. A red-haired girl came rushing down the stairs. She looked like she was frightened half-way to death; expression wild, eyes wide and ... shrieking. Yes, that probably was the give-away. Another man, who judging by the instrument he was holding seemed to be a bard, came rushing after her, with a very apologetic posture.

"Usually, captains know their own band of loyal sailors, so getting a captain is half the battle. If for some reason he doesn't know enough people, you could always walk into one of the taverns near the port. I recommend the Fish Wine inn... partially because of its obviously nautical theme, but also because its the largest and busiest near the port."

"Thanks again. I'll be back for a ship in the morning, and with any luck a captain." Luke waved as he walked out the door, with Tabbytha quickly in tow. He made his way back down the street towards the waterfront and the Fish Wine Inn. |Tabbytha, I think I'll get our lunch at the Inn, I hope you still like fish.| Tabbytha didn't answer, but the purrs told him all he needed to know. As he neared the water the humid air filled with the bitter scent of fish. After several blocks of walking he found the Fish Wine Inn, and stepped inside looking for a captain without a ship. He began asking around.

@Fool
A half hour asking around got him three candidates. The first was a very young man, perhaps nearing 21, with white messy hair and sparkling grey eyes. His name was Joshua, and preferred not to reveal his last name to people he just met. He claimed he was perfectly able to captain a ship. The second candidate was a grizzled captain, who looked like he would be able to wrestle a bear and come out more or less fine. His voice was gruff, and he mentioned he did not have a crew ... anymore. His name was Ibta. The third and final candidate was a shifty looking middle-aged man with a goatee. He repeatedly brushed it while he spoke. He had up to thirty men ready to hop on board and sail to sea, he said. He was called Thefedo.

"|Sorry, we don't serve any fish wine. Please come again tomorrow!|"
When Luke came back to his seat at the bar, he heard another person speaking in the soft cadence of Feline. It was one of the servers. Tabbytha seemed put off.

"|Tabbytha, what do you think of the possible captains? The third one seemed kind of suspicious to me.|" Luke noticed that Tabbytha was a bit distracted, so he waved his hand in front of her eyes. "|What's up?|"

"|Eh? No, it's just... How did that human learn cat? Also, why is there no fish wine when that's that name of the store? ... Erm, they do say to never trust a man with a goatee... What about the other two? How are they?|"

"|I agree that we shouldn't trust the man with the goatee, he seems like a pirate, and with thirty men I think we would be trampled and they would walk away with our ship.|" Luke looked across the room, looking for the other two candidates. "|I'm not sure if we need a bear-fighter for a captain. We need leadership, not bravado and strength. The other option however seems inexperienced, and by hiding his name he might be trying to get away from something."| Luke thought about it then scratched at his hair. "|Then again, I wouldn't want anyone to know my truename, so I suppose I can relate, even if it isn't the same thing. We shouldn't be sailing far, so lets find out what kind of crew Joshua has.|" Luke stood up, and walked over to Joshua. "What kind of crew do you have Joshua?"

((Sense Motive checks please.))

His grey eye were honest, as he said:
"Of crew, I have one first mate, who is a good friend of mine and also can bluff his way through anything, and another friend of mine who your cat seems to have met. She's a good hand at craft(cloths), and is quite... say, strong willed."
He smiled at Tabbytha. "Of regular crewmen I have about ten. They are all smart (compared to most seasmen) and jolly.. Good men all in all. Unfortunately, we don't have a navigator. That's probably why my ship ran aground while getting he-" His eyes widened, then he started flailing his arms around. "Wait- let's say you didn't hear th- I mean, it's proof of my ability that we got here at all without a navigator!"

Joshua seemed to have almost zero ability to hide his motives.

"... I knew I should have told Maximin to stay..." He buried his head in his arms on the table in embarrasment. (...did I spell that right?)

((Embarrassment. You were one s short, but I wouldn't have noticed.))

"You know, you should always stay strong in front of your crew, you shouldn't have let your navigator leave." Luke paused and glanced down for a moment in thought. He placed his hand on Joshua's shoulder. "You don't seem like an experienced captain, but I've been in a similar situation before. I'll tell you what, I'll look for a navigator and I'll see what I can do for you. What kind of ship did you have before?"

"Navigator? What navigator?" Joshua's muffled voice was sheepish. "We didn't have one from the start. I did all the navigating, but it turned out navigation was quite an art." In answer to the second question. "Before, we had something like a cross between a caravel and a galleon that looked like a crazy wizard used Enlarge Object on a bottled ship, installed a gold reactor and made it fly. So... Caravel. Probably."

Luke was astounded at the bizarre description of the ship and placed his hand on his forehead in an attempt to grasp what insanity must have stricken the shipbuilder. This might prove to be problematic. "Your crew has experience with sea-faring ships right? Not just flying ships? At least most of them, right?"

A thought for another time. "So... what was your favorite job we did?" There were quite a few to choose from. They both got from level 3 to 9 working together, after all.

Tali thought back..

"The week in the belly of the Dragon Eel? " she said with a grin.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Tali took a long draught of coffee, absorbing Kanesraes reaction. She knew her old friend didn't exactly like to be reminded of that specific incident-and in truth, Tali herself was a bit queasy sailing even today.

"Eh, lucky those FisherDwarves caught the bugger and split him open, or we'd still be there..." Tali finished, with a wry laugh.

Rae was taken aback slightly. "You... liked that? I kinda thought it was... horrible!" Being swallowed whole hadn't been a pleasant experience, although it was a long shot better than being chewed up first, she supposed. She and Tali had spent the entire time huddled together, trying to stay out of the monster's powerful digestive fluids, scared and hungry in the dark. And it had stunk in there on top of everything else. Still, she had to thank Urist, Urist, Urist, and Urist for catching that fish and splitting it open... although she still had trouble remembering which old fisherdwarf was which. "We'd be skeletons in there by now, probably..." she said uncertainly.

While Rae and Tali were talking, Toman was getting up from his seat at the bar to see what the commotion was. He stopped the girl with a hand on her shoulder, then turned and held his other hand out to stop the bard. "What's going on here?" he asked.

@Fool

Joshua laughed good naturedly. "Of course we did! Mostly because the ship splashed-down a couple hours after being in the air, but we ran aground. That means we were in the sea!"

@SerCon

"He tried to kill me!", shrieked the girl at the bard.
"But - but, I didn't know that would happen!"
"It was perfectly like a phantasmal killer spell except it was a woman I never seen before!"
The girl was about ready to attack the bard and started readying a spell, arcane magic glowing around her hand.

Tali grunted.

"Looks like there's about to be one less Bard in the world..."

She went back to her coffee, drinking calmly and watching the scene unfold. Tali's crossbow has somehow found it's way into her lap and under the table, in case someone should try to hurt her friends.
