"There has to be some way to stop this," Toman said in frustration. ...I wish I could think of one. If the people of Noire really are so thirsty for blood and expansion... then the only solution may be to kill every single last one of them. But once you start doing that, where do you stop? Do you just kill everyone to prevent anyone hurting anyone else? And it's human nature to hate the strange, to be elitist... I suppose the people of Dannon and the people of Noire are probably fated to fight it out sooner or later.

"A different question, then. You said you are an outsider and can't be revived." Toman looked toward the Senate. "Then what does Lyliss have that can bring you back from whatever this weapon is going to do?"

"The end section of my ring finger ... but ... I lied. To her. She'll ... she'll have to just live ... without..."

Her voice was a bit shaky now. She looked stolidly forward, and her right hand went to her sleeve. She quickly let go, though.

"Who is Lyliss, exactly?" Toman asked. She was apparently planning on leaving the child in their care. He wanted to know more about her. "And how are we going to get the ring if you're going to blow up the building? It might get buried in rubble; at the very least soldiers are going to come investigate."

"She has it. She's someone I found ... she's different from most people. I hope you don't ... "

She stops speaking and waves a hand dismissively.

"...It's in the letter. Read on the ship."

The Senate loomed in the background, steadily growing larger with every footstep.

Tali wrung her hands, looking down at the ground. Then she took Rae by the arm, speaking quickly.

"...We've got to go, Rae. All of us. We can't save her...we can't save people who don't want to be saved. All we can do is get ourselves killed.

Things are about to get bad around here-law and order is going to collapse. All sorts of people..."

Like you? her mind tittered.

"...all sorts of people are going to be taking advantage of it, bad sorts. If we're not off, we'll get caught up in it too. They might...I've seen it before. It's going to be bloody."

Seen it? That was sort of an understatement-Tali has been part of it, using the chaos in the streets to fill her own pockets, breaking into shops and mansions. There would be plenty of that sort-and the repression in Noire would bring out worse characters...and of course, the military itself.

She didn't want her friends to get caught here overnight.

Rae nodded. "...You're right. I'll round up everybody." She moved about the team, spreading the word. As much as she wanted things to be different, she had to acknowledge that they weren't going to be, and the only thing for it was to get Lyliss and get out. Toman, meanwhile, was still speaking to Edia. "...Assuming this goes as planned, who's to say the people of Noire will recognize it as a Dannon weapon and draw the 'correct' conclusion?"

Ohen sighed. "What a dull country. There are people with guns everywhere, and no one wants a legendary chef." He sighed and headed back to his animals. He whispered in Ramsey's ear, "You two should go hide. I'm going to find their kitchen. I'm sure that they'll want some food once I start cooking." He motioned for them to go hide and wait, and after a second or two they headed off to the side of the building where they sat and waited. He sneaked up to the wall of the building, and flew upwards, looking for a way in that didn't have so many guards.

@Fool

Ohen finds an unguarded window and enters the building. He finds a clearly marked sign, "Kitchen/Pantry ->"

It turns out the kitchen is unguarded! Yay!

"The weapon is blatantly magical. They won't be able to think of it in any other way."

Ohen started to whistle as he made his way to the kitchen, he was excited at the prospect of cooking in a new country with different available spices and herbs. He pulled the corner into the kitchen, not even looking to see if anyone was there. He made sure there was nothing in front of him, and shut his eyes as he flew to the center of the room. "I'm Ohen Gale, master of several styles of cooking. I've traveled for..." He opened his eyes and looked around the room, only to see that there wasn't anyone in the kitchen at the time. "...Oh. Well I suppose that means that I don't need to introduce myself. Let's start with a stew. That should gather a crowd." He flew over to the pantry, looking for something to make a stew. "Come on... Spices!" He threw open the doors to the pantry.

Toman wasn't really reassured. "...Fine. Then we'll leave you to this mission of yours. Everyone! Back to the tower to get Lyliss, and then we head to the Alatria!"

Ediacaran smiled sadly.

"Farewell, then. I ... "

She did not finish, and swept towards the Senate.

"The final speech of my life..."

Her words were carried by the unusually strong wind towards the party. Ediacaran disappeared into the dark gaping entrance.

The pantry was surprisingly empty. 'Spices' consisted of mostly pepper (whole) and thyme. Condiments were salt, salt, or salt. It didn't seem anyone actually ate here... :(

Rae and Toman entered the tower. Despite the seriousness of the situation, Rae was distracted by a noise in the kitchen while Toman mounted the staircase. "...Hello? Is anyone in here?" she asked, peeking in. She could have sworn she'd heard a tiny voice, but she didn't see anyone. Meanwhile, upstairs, Toman pushed open the door to Ediacaran's office. "Lyliss? Are you here, child?" he asked, looking around for her.

Ohen gripped his hair in frustration. "Oh, you can't be serious. How come this pantry is so empty!? Have they no love for food here!? This... this... is impossible. No one in their right mind would cook in such an empty kitchen. I'm out of here." Ohen turned to the direction of the door. "I haven't seen so much salt since I visited a meat smoker in those mountains so long ago. At least he had meat!" He started for the door of the kitchen, deciding to walk the rest of the distance to brood over the lack of culinary delight. "If I don't find someone with a love for food I'm just going to leave Noire." Someone poked their head into the kitchen for a moment, but that moment quickly passed. "It isn't worth cooking for a country that uses salt on everything. Just salt? Pah! Wait... This can't be the right kitchen, maybe there is a second kitchen. Miss! I have a question for you!" Ohen flew upwards and started to chase the person he saw in the doorway.

Rae... hadn't left yet. She was still loitering in the doorway when a small creature suddenly flew directly at her! "Oh, um, hello, there, Petal," she said, taking step back in surprise. "What's going on?"

Lyliss was still on the chair, eyes red from crying.

"... Yes?"

She looked at the scary armored man.
