"What do you need the delay for? Time to order a firing squad?" Toman said, the anger a strong undercurrent in his tone.

"...Well, yes. One firing squad. Actually, make that ... two. For me. Not you. Twenty four muskets should be able to do the job.

Ediacaran was visibly shaken now. Her glasses slipped, and she pushed them back up.

"Not actually order, per se. More like being forced upon me. "

"... I know that I may seem ... 'evil', but ... no, I did my best. Just think that some of my recent acts were ... 'unfavorable', in the eyes of the People."

Ediacaran shakes her head, white locks of hair spreading out.

"A thousand words are a single action. Just... Follow me, to the Senate. There, this madness ends. And there, my final act of slaughter should happen. Post-mortem, but slaughter.

She slowly stands. She seems to be taller than Toman.

"I want to ask you one thing... Could you take care of Lyliss, here? Also, can you take this scroll- " she offers the tube- "--and break it after ... after the deed is done. Please. "

Without waiting for an answer, she goes around the desk and starts heading out.

Rae immediately blocked her path. Having been in her shoes before - sort of - she felt an empathy for her. "At least tell us what's going on," she said.

Ediacaran looked at Rae.

"Ever wondered why Noire, with our advanced technology, has not conquered the Continent a couple times over? I, as the de facto dictator of Noire, held it back. Of course, the People-" she said the word with a disgusted look, "- didn't want that. At last, we went to war. I turned back, you remember? I recall one fair-haired elf maiden grappling me on the hellfire engine ... anyhow, it costs a lot to go to war."

She brushed an escapee lock of hair from her face.

"The People had an interesting opinion on that matter. I have caught wind of a coup d'tat attempt, because I cheat at the no-magic rule. ... This is the best way for everyone. Drop a Dannon-made weapon created from an unholy marriage of technology and arcane arts on the Senate, which thanks to Abjuration shall be confined only to the Senate - and Ediacaran the beloved president dies. Assassination by Dannon. War with Dannon, not the Continent! Flawless. Sucks to be Dannon people or soldiers, I guess."

Lyliss suddenly realized what Ediacaran was going to do and jumped up. Ediacaran turned and brushed Lyliss's hair.

"No, I won't be gone, Lyliss. I gave you something that can be used to bring me back... " Rae notices Ediacaran's left ring finger is bandaged- "... and all you need is 10000 gp cost of diamonds and a cleric. You can find that money, Lyliss. Who wouldn't want a mechanic straight from Noire in their motley band of tomb robbers? You can find ten thousand gold coins in under a year, I promise. "

Ediacaran turned back to face the party.

"Can we continue this discussion outside, in the hall? Lyliss is going to stay here for forty minutes, before heading to board, hopefully, your ship."

Her eyes were hiding something.

Rae continued to block her path. "I can't let you do that. I don't know who the Dannon are and I don't care! There doesn't need to be a war!" Toman looked pained. "On the one hand I would like nothing better than to watch you be gunned down for your part in Bano's attack. On the other I can't just let you die for the sole sake of starting a war, either." He considered the Flowing Hammer. "I'm thinking perhaps a massacre by a lone zealot of St. Cuthbert might be in order. The Senate, the President... All taken out by one person with a weapon of untold power."

He shrugged. "Gives the People - such as they are - a target for their outrage. I won't be able to rejoin the Alatria, and if they catch me, I'm a dead man... but it prevents two wars." Rae was stunned speechless by his suggestion. "What do you think, Edia? Plan on giving me a hand in wiping out the Senate? I'm going to have to kill you after that, but..."

"Fine. Let's walk, and you can explain exactly what's going to happen." Toman moved Rae aside gently.

Tali couldn't think straight. There was no way out. Someone-or alot of people-were going to die. And she couldn't do anything about it...

"You're all so eager to jump on the pike, eh...have you all thought this through...?" she exclaimed, hand on the hilt of the Winterer-though she did so unconsciously. She said it strong enough, but her heart wasn't in it.

She followed the rest of them out, shaking her head.

Ohen decided to follow the guards anyways. Who knows, maybe those nice people would like a nice meal before something bad happens to them. He followed them on his dire wolf Emeril, who towered over the people he was following. He hummed a tune as went, and the guards were looking back occasionally to see if the massive wolf was still following them. When everyone else went inside a few of the guards were staying behind. Emeril and Ohen walked up to them. "Hey. I'm the traveling chef, Ohen Gale." He flew off the large silvery wolf and flew towards the guards. He bowed to them. "It might be a bit unusual, but I was wondering if anyone here would like something cooked for them. All I need is access to a kitchen, some ingredients and I can make a 5 star meal within minutes."

Meanwhile...

Daero leaned towards Bael, and whispered, "We'd best be careful with what we say. There will be a lot of guards outside. Be ready for an attack, because I doubt this human will give us a choice if she wants us dead."

The guards ignore Ohen.

The sound of someone talking echoes from above.

Ediacaran said to Lyliss, "Be good, Lyliss. See you, soon."

She closed the door on Lyliss's tearful face.

"As you might know, I am an outsider, I can't be resurrected. ... Also, the reason it has to be this way is because they'll come after me eventually; everyone including Ediacaran dying is much more believable than one lone man who might have been hired by Ediacaran 'killing' Ediacaran, and anyways conquest of the Continent can be delayed for a while while Noire wars on Dannon, and Dannon is the mage continent voluntarily isolated under Myirki, and anyways the preparation is all done ..."

She spoke quickly while walking equally quickly.

"Better I and a number of equally foreigner hostile mages to be dead than the Continent. That is what I believe. "

Bael nodded somberly. His voice was less than a whisper,

"For once, we can agree....Daero." Bael replied, using the warriors name instead of his usual designation.

In truth, Bael was worried about his teammates doing something rash.

Toman laughed to himself, somewhat bitterly. "Who said I meant faking killing you?"

Edia raised an eyebrow.

"I never did. I fully expect myself to die. Will the paranoid politicians think I, the legendary Ediacaran, to die? Firing squad is the way to go. The rotten men themselves ordered it."

She briskly heads out of the building towards the round construct in the distance. It vaguely looked like a gladiatorial arena.
