"That's 'smart whitehaired guy who is also good-looking and leaning on the wall anticipating the solution to Anya's game of solitare' for you," said Joshua with a totally straight face, nodding at Lucus.
((Good to know. :P))

((some 10 seconds in the past))
"Hey, if girl's day out involves something more exciting than writing things I already know onto parchment, count me in."

((meanwhile, in the present))
"Oh, another wizard, then? I'm Rudra." Rudra moves to put his next bite in his mouth, and pauses. "Forgive me for not standing on formalities just now, I'm hungry..." *resumes eating*

((Rudra assumes that there is exactly one kind of person who can deduce the solution to a solitaire game nigh-instantaneously: wizards. Rudra is a wizard, and currently thinks Lucus is one as well.))

((That was Joshua describing himself for my benefit, since I don't actually know what he looks like. Lucus' a ranger.))

((That's actually Joshua who said it.))

"Well, no... I do have the intelligence for it. " says Joshua offhandly.

Meanwhile, Bael sweeps into the room with no fanfare, gathering breakfast food onto twin plates. He seems to be a bit distracted, not speaking or noticing anyone sitting at the tables. He looks fairly pale, and quite haggard.

Almost as an afterthought, he says...

"And, good morning, everyone."

Joshua cocked his head, observing Bael.

"You seem... tired. Of the mind, or is it of the body?"

Bael cast his keen silver eyes at Joshua, then turned back to his tasks, doing them, while speaking.

"...My mind is strong. My body is strained. My heart is bruised...but, you did not inquire about that, ser.

I suppose, some Mortals consider speaking on matters of the heart with a near stranger inimical. That is very at odds with my own beliefs."

He phrased his words not so much as questions, as stated facts.

Bael continued to gather foodstuffs, and filling two mugs with black coffee...Joshua seemed to be lost in thought.

"...you seem to have little to say on the matter then, Ser. Have I given you something to think about, maybe?

In any case, concern over my own condition is misplaced. Reserve it for my Heart-Pledged, and my Clan-Sister. They suffer far more than I could bear.

And, I have borne much."

"Mmm... Can you elaborate on what you have borne?"
Joshua's sight was on Anya's card game, but he did seem concentrating on Bael.

"Speaking of the sisters, we should probably offer to bring them along on our little shopping trip. Problem is, I'm not sure they're talking to anyone..."

Bael waited a moment, for the coffee to reheat on the magical stove.

"...Much loss I have borne, sir. I have lived a long time-and, my memory is very good.

I have known little in my life, that was not a passing fancy...or lost to the fire. The flames have consumed my friends, my home, my very sense of who I am at times. One day, you might understand, ser. Or, maybe you already do...

But, my pains are not the same as having the bond of family changed, reforged. Living is more painful than loss.

After all, my brother merely died, while I watched helplessly.

Riawilde must watch, and feel her Sister grow and change. Growth and change are good, at times-but, it is always painful. Very much so."

Bael turned to Rudra, nodding.

"Ria is feeling better, now that we are away from the island. I think a bit of fresh air and positive feelings will do her well. More the latter, than the former.

If you have heard her speak of the spiritual current, I assure you it is not a mere religious flippance. I believe the term is, Empathic-She feels the emotions of those around her intimately, even more so with those she calls friends. It is a terrible burden, but one she hides well. Too well."

Having observed the conversation and feeling completely lost as to the contents of it, Lucus spoke up.

"Please excuse the slight change of subject, but what's happened with Riawilde's sister? And what happened to you with a conflagration?"
