((No, you have to research AT Anarose's library :P I hope you don't go waltzing off into a place that by default is Hostile to living things...))

The Electrum Horror bodies were all very cheap. Tali got 11 platinum for the lot. The Gold horror was 23 platinum.

The remnants of the gems on the Horrors were all sold as dust for 110 platinum.

Tali :: <Rolls a 1. 1+12=13>
  Hatred Island is so hostile to living beings that all of her contacts can tell her nothing about it, except for 'Don't'.
((Assume that Tali used an Orb of Sending.))

Ria :: History of Winterer <10+6 = 16. Circumstance bonus +5 == 21.>
  Winterer is a sword made of otherworldly metal. It is fairly famous,especially for the fact that every single one of its owners eventually met their demise, be it straight-forward death at battle, or a round-about death due to the collapse of their civilization. The earliest recorded owner was a magical beast by the name of Sfardasfedhlenarw, who used the blade and attempted to whip Pandemonium into Law. Needless to say, he failed.

        Geography <11+6 = 17. Circumstance bonus +5 == 22>
  Hatred Island is a small continent to the north of The Continent. It has one mountain range named Sacre Mts, and the highest peak stands 2300 meters from sea level. The island is rugged with little arable land, but the current inhabitants do not care. Several cities of the undead are situated around the flatlands. Most cities are dominated by one particular type of undead, but all undead are equally welcome. Around the seas of Hatred Island, attempting to dock anywhere except Gateway without a marked flag (received at Gateway) will end badly for the would-be travelers.

         History of Hatred Island <4+6=10. Circumstance bonus +5 == 15> (The dice hate you...:P)
  You find little about Hatred Island, and how it came about to be conquered by the undead.

Map of:

((There ARE more cities than those three, but I was... lazy.))

Rudra makes a knowledge (Religion, +22) check to know something, anything about Hatred Island: Local gods, worship rates of the different gods, or how the island came to be filled with the undead.

He then searches (+8) around Anarose's Library for books that might have something relevant.

Rudra
<Religion = 13 + 22 = 35. Bonus +5 = 45>
  Hatred Island's citizens mostly worship various gods of death. However, some of them worship the band of people who established Hatred Island as the undeads', chasing out the various natives many years ago. Because most of the founders were undead themselves, they are still alive.

<Search = 12 + 8 = 20>
  You find a tiny book that details the procedures of the many ports of the world. The Hatred Island section describes the boarding officials (usually a pair of wights and a more heavily built undead, such as a golem) and the marked flag needed to safely enter other ports than Gateway without being shot out of the water.

Vulsano putters around Anarose's library looking for info on Hatred Island!

+13 to the roll for Knowledge (History) to try to remember general history about Hatred Isle, as well as the root cause of the undead!
+17 to the roll for Knowledge (Arcana) to try to figure out how the island became completely undeadified!
+11 to the roll for Knowledge (Religion) to try to remember more about the founder-centric religion!
+7 to the roll for Search to try to find books related to Hatred Isle!

Luke also looks into the Island from many different perspectives. The more information they can find the better.

He looks into the religions of the island (take ten on Religion +18+15=43 for taking ten in the library) and the planar beings and objects on the island (take ten, Planes +18+15=43).

History < 13 + 13 + 5 = 31>
 You find an world history book that mentions a short history of Hatred Island.
   1833, 87 years ago: An adventuring band, lead by the lich Bano chances upon a certain sword named Winterer.
   1853, 67 years ago: Said adventuring band teleports great armies of intelligent undead into Hatred Island, which used to be called Arclaoth   in Elven (which means Golden Rose Gate). The marauding undead cleared out the island within two weeks, killing or enslaving (via vampire thralls, wights, or other methods) every single elf, half-elf, human and orc living on the island.
   1854, 66 years ago: The undead rename Arclaoth to Hatred. They announce the sovereignty of their nation.
   1860, 60 years ago: Noire blockades Hatred Island.
   1861, 59 years ago: Nineteen dwarven cities ally with two goblinoid kingdoms, the nation of Ula, and Noire, invading Hatred Island. This was not only the largest, but also the only alliance of many nations, and perhaps the only non-hostile relations between dwarves and goblins for the past millennium. Strangely, no elf nations participate in this historical alliance. It is speculated that the opportunistic attack of unallied orcs into Myirki was the reason.
   1861, 59 years ago: Ula's Paladin squad is exterminated by the forces of Bano. This caused Ula to loose most of its edge. Ula withdraws.
   1861, 59 years ago: The supply line is cut off by Bano's forces, in an ironic reflection of the 1860 Noire blockade. Most of the invaders withdraw or are massacred.
     The defeat of the mortal forces is mostly due to the following reasons - One, undead do not need supply lines. Two, undead are more tough on average. Three, undead can recruit more troops from the corpses of the living.
   1865, 55 years ago: Bano imposes an embargo on all entrance except for Gateway.
   1880, 40 years ago: Bano starts losing political power
   1894, 36 years ago: The leader position is usurped.
   1895, 35 years ago: Bano is no longer seen often in public. No sightings.

Arcana <10 + 17 + 5 = 32>
  The island, originally the elven tribe Arclaon's land, was taken by force. Careful orchestrating and tactical success of Bano was the reason it was not taken during the war, and inertia set in after some years. There is no special secret involved.

@Fool

  Religions <43>
Same as Rudra. You do know from Vulsano's research that Bano has not been sighted for at least 40 years. Little is known of the religion, as any scholars who attempt to learn by actually going to Hatred Island are reported missing.

  Planar <43>
Hatred Island does not seem to have any strong ties to any planes. However, the area as a whole has a weak residue of Baator. This may imply that many devils frequent Hatred Island. This does not make much sense, though, as devils have little incentive to trade with undead beings. Oftentimes, imps are killed outright in their futile attempts to persuade undead to make Faustian pacts. The seductions of pleasure devils are doomed to fail, and demons such as succubi likewise have found it hard to set a foothold in the nigh-impregnable fortress that is Hatred.
  The ethereal plane is very disturbed. The evidence suggests a large number of ghosts and/or other ethereal creatures.
  There seem to be no permanent gates in Hatred Island.

"Hey, everyone, I've found something valuable. Apparently you need one of these special flags to make port anywhere on Hatred Island anywhere other than Gateway."

Rudra looks around for stuff about the gods of death (+8 search).

Tali grunted.

"My contacts overland said the island is a horrible place, that should be forsaken by the living, and if we go there we're going to die, and then become slaves to some horrifying undead creature of another.

Oh! And it's supposedly very cold and rainy this time of year. Might want to pack a coat."

...

Riawilde chimed in, though as they approached the island, she was beginning to get increasingly painful headaches. Her tone was brittle, and often frustrated.

"...I found most of the island is quite rugged. There's a single large mountain range, and most the undead cities are located in the flatter parts of the island. Apparently most of the cities are dominated by a single type of undead, as well.

And, I found something about the sword as well, the Winterer. Apparently everyone who has owned it died terribly. I'm not sure if that's some sort of ominous portent, or just the fact that everyone who gets the weapon decides they are invincible...when clearly, they are not."
