"Okay.... Wind dancer was it? I'll get there by noon."

Thankfully, the two items were available at market price.

Yet later...

After Tali purchased her new shinies, she showed Tom his quarters on the ship-and showed him the first set of things to appraise.

  • Silver-plated steel longsword with black jewel in hilt
  • Golden circlet with four blue gems
  • Chess board with pieces magically stuck to its surface and cannot be moved
  • +4 small 'slick' full plate armor
  • +2 medium breastplate armor
  • +3 Chain shirt
  • yellow gem

Meanwhile...

Riawilde had been watching the gulls fly around the docks for hours, almost mesmerized. She felt...kinship. Brightwing whispered, that the Avian Spirits were gathered close around here.

She decided to take advantage of it. Ignoring the odd looks from the rest of the crew, she had purchased, and garbed herself in wings and feathers, from owls, ravens and seagulls-she looked much like a bird. She knew it would aid in the spirit world, as a sign of respect. Ria had also chosen the Crows nest to do the incantations, for the sake of irony.

She knew the chant could not be interrupted for many hours. She had to calm her sister down, a bit.

"Do not be concerned if I cannot respond to you, Rae. I will be...quite in my element, and sometimes insensible to the world around me. But, I will be perfectly safe with Brightwing to protect me.

Just make sure no one interrupts me, unless it is extremely vital, yes? Oh, and if someone could bring me food and water now and again...I might lose track of time."

Action: Riawilde goes on a Spirit Journey to earn the Winged Watcher spell...

A seagull spirit came. It glided through the walls and landed on the floor in front of Ria.
'Caw', it said.

Scion and Joshua plotted a course towards Sunset Island. The Witch of Sunset Island was said to live there behind an elaborate series of magical protection.

Riwilde blinked a few times. Then, she cocked her head to angle, intoning her "Speak with Animals" spell.

"Honored Spirit...you have heard my call? Do you know what boon I seek from you?"

The spirit opened its beak and said,

'Yes. Why do you need it? And what good shall it be to us?'

"Thanks for the advice," Toman said. He went off to go sell his old shield, the Darkwood shield, the +2 tower shield, and the +1 15 SR shield.

Riawilde listened.

"The power of your avian form is a mighty gift. I can use it for many things...to see from afar mine enemies, to escape danger and transgress obstacles in my path. And naturally, the experience itself will be wonderous.

...as for your benefit, my work is always in service of healing the rifts between the physical and spiritual world. This boon will help me to do so. Every good act I do has been in your service, honored spirit. After all, the continued health of both realms is all our responsibility.

And, I have prepared certain offerings for your brother and sisters here, to show my goodwill."

Ria motioned with her left hand to a few bowls of Drudic goodberries laid about. Most had been cleaned out by hungry birds already. Such acts of goodwill tended to reverberate into the spiritual realm.

Quote from: To Sell
Silver-plated steel longsword with black jewel in hilt
+4 small 'slick' full plate armor
+2 medium breastplate armor
+3 Chain shirt
yellow gem
+1 medium dwarven waraxe
+3 small greatsword
+2 medium greataxe
+3 light repeating crossbow bolts (15)

Merchant's offering price:
  Silver longsword - 400 gp
Slick full plate armor - 10000 gp
Medium breastplate armor - 2000 gp
  Chain shirt - 3500 gp
  Jasper - 50 gp
  Dwarven waraxe - 1200 gp
  Small greatsword - 8000 gp
  Medium greataxe - 3500 gp
  Crossbow bolts - 2000 gp
Sum = 30650 gp

Tali just knew she was being ripped off on some of the items, especially ones with more than +3 enhancements.

Haggle?
(10% increase in price's Diplomacy DC = 22 (+0 Just Met, +5 Unfavorable, +3 Level))
Failure by more than 10 = 10% lower price.
Failure by less than 5 = Counteroffer
Meeting DC = Success
Success by more than 10 = 20% increase in DC)

"Thanks for the advice," Toman said. He went off to go sell his old shield, the Darkwood shield, the +2 tower shield, and the +1 15 SR shield.

The merchant offered up this price list:
  Old shield = 90 gp
  Darkwood shield = 100 gp
  +2 tower shield = 2000 gp
  +1 shield, 15 Spell Resistance = 6000 gp
Sum = 6310

Haggle?
(Like above, 10% increase in selling price is a DC 22 check.)

The seagull spirit gazed at the offering for a moment.

Spoiler: Diplomacy check (click to show/hide)

(Ria's Sheet: http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheetview.php?sheetid=320747. Also, the diplomacy check is impossible for Toman to pass (1d20+1 vs 22) so I think I'll forgo it. :P)

"That concludes our business," Toman said as he took the 6k. He planned to divide it up evenly: 1,500 for Luke, Rudra, and Tali, with the remaining 1810 for himself since he did the work of dragging the shields out to be sold. Ria didn't seem to be interested in money and, well, Rae would look after her own cashflow, he knew that much. He returned to the inn to distribute the profits.

Roll : 4 + 9 = 13 > 8

"...I accept."

The spirit touched Ria's forehead with its beak.

"Take this knowledge on behalf of all avian spirits. Use it well ..."

The spirit's outline faded, blurred and disappeared.

Ria woke from her trance with a start. It had been 2 days, and she was very hungry and thirsty. In front of her was a bowl of clear water and a small loaf of bread.

"Hmm... Weird."
Scion touched his almanac.
"See, that red dot in the sky, right above the main mast? That thing isn't in any of the almanacs I have. I think it's a new star..."

@Sky: Can Tali use her Bluff vs Sense Motive in place of Diplomacy? :P Pretty much to bluff "If you don't give me a better price, I'm going to walk!"

If not, I'll just accept it as is.

----------------------------------

Riawilde could not ignore her hunger, and she eagerly consumed the bread and water-before make it down to the deck, and collapsing into bed to meditate her weariness away...magical knowledge hummed in her mind, and her dreams...

@Dwar - If you want to Bluff, declare that you'll bluff before I calculate the DC. :3 / Also, bluffing has the disadvantage that if you fail, the spirit will either attack or go away.

The ship's yards were drawn in. The sheets were neatly rolled up, and the anchor down.

"See that?"

Joshua said to the party, pointing at a wall of water.

"That's some epic spell put up there. It creates a permanent wall of water and wind that'll batter any ship larger than a caravel into tiny pieces. However, rowboats are permitted, and so are longboats. Presumably to prevent people from invading. Get into our ship's rowboats and row your way there. It'll take only an hour."

The boats were lowered into the water.

Inside the wall, everything was calm. The rowboats went through the wall like it was a saved illusion; without any complications they got on the calm, silvery beach.

There was a cobbled path winding up the steep rock cliffs. Moderate vegetation covered them, and birds chortled in cheery song. At the far end of the path, the party could barely see a cave.

@Sky: Alright, Tali will try a Bluff against the Merchant. :P

If it's too late for that, just accept the deal as is.
