Trail's End : NPC Interaction Thread
« on: February 11, 2012, 10:35:23 am »

Yessum.

Original thread: Trail's End

Current agenda : Learn more about the necromancer's tower, which on the OP map is the tiny island between The Continent and Ichavon Isles.

We are currently in Port Nio, marked on the map. The main material of construction is a white to grey rock. It is a medium-sized port, with predominantly two-masted brigs and sloops in the port. There are three large ships in the port right now. Like most ports, it is a bustling place, the crossroads between the sea and the land. The market is overflowing with both mundane and magical goods and items.

Kanesrae returned to town after a prolonged period of travel to try to master herself. It had... somewhat worked. She had a bit more willpower now, but she was still sort of a ditz, and wasn't used to not wearing armor over her clothing. She wondered what Ria and her friends were doing... but she could always pay a visit to them later. For now, her primary concern was the greatsword she had picked up from the Ethereal Marauders awhile back... she had to find a mage to identify it for her.

"Welcome, fine elf! What may I have of service to you?"
The 'weapon empathist' whom she had heard of greeted her in clunky, but understandable, Elven. The shop was a small structure. It was roughly square-shaped. The interior was dominated by racks upon racks of dark wood equipment stands. The man himself was moderately tall and looked in his 30s. He was famous for his ability to identify exact properties of weapons by merely touching them.

"Hello!" Rae said brightly in Common. She was almost always in a good mood, after all. She took the mysterious greatsword from her back and set it on the counter. "Can you identify this for me? I've been carrying it for awhile, and I know it's magic, but I dunno what. I think maybe it's..." she paused and looked up, an eyebrow raised, as she tried to think of the word. "Sentient?" That sounded about right, so she nodded, deciding that was it.

"Ah, you have a intelligent weapon in your hands!" He ran his own hands over the weapon a bit.
"Let's see... This weapon has a few abilities. First, it can hear everything around it. Second, it casts light as a torch, and can turn the light off if it wishes so. Third, it can cast darkness thrice a day. Fourth, it gains new abilities as the owner gains experience in the world. Finally, it communicates with empathy, in emotions. You might want to invest in a permanent detect thoughts or other similar magic and really communicate." He rotated to sword on the counter so that the hilt pointed at Kanesrae.
"It also has the attack capability of a +3 greatsword. That will be 600 gold pieces for appraisal."

Rae nodded. "Thank you very much!" she said, putting 600 (5,050 left) GP on the counter and taking the greatsword back. Now, she had a sword to sell. Putting the sentient greatsword back, she gestured to the Huge-sized one on her back. "Do you know someone who will buy this? It has a +2 enchantment," she said. From her experience those generally cost about 8,000 gold to put on, plus about 300-some gold for the weapon itself.

"Hmm... Any weapons dealer would probably buy it from you... for half the listed price. Tough, but that's the rules for most equipment." The man swept the coins into his register.

Then, suddenly, a hooded man, with a backpack and a jar of rice wine, walked in. He hid his face from everyone who looked upon him, and he looked of noble birth. He walked over to the counter, sensing it somehow and said, 'Do you have any walking sticks for a blind man to use?'

(Blind samurai walks in to the same store as Rae, hoping to buy a walking stick.)

" ... Hello, sir, and no, sir, I do not have any sticks for sale - this is a appraising store, not a weapons shop. " The map paused - "However, if you are interested, we have many high-end canes and sticks that you may be interested in. For example, the one on the far left of that rack over there is a +6 pine cane. Not only does it get a +7 to attack and damage rolls, it also cannot deal any lethal damage at all!"

Rae nodded to Amane politely before turning back to the storeowner. "I understand. Thank you very much." It was reasonable. Merchants had to make a profit somehow, and part of the difference between the price she bought it and the price she would sell it for would probably go to making sure it was in good enough condition to resell. She left to go find a weapons dealer who would be willing to take it off of her hands for about... 4,150 GP?

(lol. No lethal damage at all, huh? :D)

'Hm. Well, then I'd like you to appraise this sword.' The man passed him a long, magical-looking bastard sword, that seemed to have spirits within. 'I would like to know what it can do.'

(Ancestral Weaponry FTW)

(( Nope. So, if you are a 18th level average warrior, you can deal 1d4 + 7 + say, 10 NL damage for a whopping 18~21 per stroke. You could probably manage to knock out every single mook you meet.))

On the way out, Kanesrae bumped into a young girl, probably about 16. She said, "Ms Elf, I overheard that you wanted to sell that sword? Can I buy it from you? I have the money ! " - she showed Kanesrae a pouch filled with platinum coins.

((...Are there any stat blocks for that weapon? Or do I create one from scratch?))

(For my Huge greatsword? It's in my character sheet, but here's the run-down:
Huge - needs Lighten Weapon or Monkey Grip feat for Medium humanoids to wield
Deals 3d6 Slashing damage
+2 means +2 to hit and +2 to damage
Weighs 16 pounds)

Rae thought about it. "Are you sure you can handle it? It's pretty big." She took it (still in sheath) from her back so the girl could see the size of it. "But if you want, then OK." She didn't see a problem with it.

((No, for Amane's ancestral weapon or whatever :P))

"Yes, yes, that's it. How much is it?" The girl seemed to barely be able to hold the sword, but she seemed ready to buy one.

Rae thought about it. She could probably get more from a merchant... but she doubted the girl could afford this strong a weapon. It would be more charitable to sell it to her. "Let's say 295 platinum," she said, a full 120 platinum less than she could have gotten and 500 platinum less that it would have cost to buy it normally.
