I do think its a little to late for that; I can swim but pulling that out wouldbe impossible with the water pressure, waters about halfway up the wall already anyways.

Bash, hit, do whatever to make sounds with the grate. If the grate's distance from the floor is indeed taller than the average man, then that should attract the attention of that jailor.
