Good luck on your endeavour. Have you channeled any pits that go all the way to magma or eerie glows to dump the stone in? If the massive excavation doesn't kill the FPS all the stone probably will if you're planning on getting rid of it later. I know only too well the curses of massive item scattering...

I know how they make those, but how can you dig that out without breaking it?

I used to have an avatar, but I was told to remove it after it kept making people go insane.

Hose.

And it'd only be a cast if he left the outlines of the rooms intact, so you'd have snaking naked stairways of stone leading into hanging square rooms surrounded by empty space over exposed lava.

I'm using autodump and an atomsmasher just to save time and the headache.  The only thing I'm not smashing is metal ores.  Those get moved to somewhere inside the fort the dwarves can reach.

Aussie; has anyone ever mentioned to you that you're insane?

Insanely dwarfy.

Always the dwarfiest solution!

I'll show a couple of pictures soon(ish), I'm down six levels now and just on the level with with the fort's bedrooms/dining hall/barracks/kitchen/etc.

The only disappointment is that I wasn't able to dig entirely around the aquifer - it's taking up all of the NW corner over a few levels.

Ah, there you are, project cube ladies and gentlemen, brought to you by Shurikane.

I humbly salute this man and all he achieved!  However, my final goal is to wall off the caverns as I pass them and fill the map with magma.

edit:  After having a look at what this pillar of insanity genius actually in the map archive of it, he did something quite different to what I intend, though utterly dwarven in all respects;  He mined out the perimeter of the map so the whole thing sat atop one support.  I'm just mining out EVERYTHING level-by-level

So Aussie, are you going to dig up/down stairs all the way to SMR so everyone can enjoy 3D Dorf fortress battles?

That's pretty much a given seeings as otherwise there'd be no way to get dwarves down to the SMR.

Not really.  I only did the one because it amused me.

I THINK I've solved the mysterious cave-in problem I had as well.  With all the channeling down it occasionally left an isolated ramp here and there.  I think channeling those squares was what caused it.  I've ordered the dwarves to clear those first before digging down and it seems to have stopped them happening.

Isolated ramps are left when a Dorf channels the tile he's standing on, just a point of information
