Oh yes, I've so been waiting for this version and I eagerly want to test it in a succession fort. Count me in for a turn and of course dorf me. Preferred profession: Leatherworker, Fisher, or Hunter/Marksdwarf (but anything goes of course).

Oh and yeah: Definetely embark in some evil and savage biome for major FUN. <3

Say, is there still room in the turn and dorfing lists?

If so, I'd like to take a stab at my first (!) succession fort...
Dorf request: Sus, male, preferably mechanic but any craft profession will do, really.

Certainly you could argue that DF is a lot like The Sims, only... you know... with more vomit and decapitation.
If you launch a wooden mine cart towards the ocean at a sufficient speed, you can have your entire dwarf sail away in an ark.

Everyone added to their lists, I imagine 10 is a cood place to cap it for now. Game is downloading as we speak.
Strike the earth, indeed.

(The world is the Dimensions of Omen, the group is, of course, Sanad Rash)

If it had been for any other reason, I wouldn't have come. If pride wasn't such a powerful thing, if I hadn't gone of spouting off about how the undead were overated and thier necromancers should have stayed dead the first time then I would be home right now. But I did, so I'm not. No I'm in some awful swamp, this one, to be exact.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

We're surrounded by dead trees, which I suppose makes this a good enough place to set up a bastion against evil as any. At least I'm not alone.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

We stop our wagon. Wickedwishes, we joke. A joke name for a joke of a fortress.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It could be worse. The water seems clean enough and there's no undergrowth. There's coal right on the face of the mountain.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Although I don't quite know how to feel about our company
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Sus and Irrall start clearing down trees for lumber while me and Fishybang start carving out the mountain.

Felcis (who's supposed to be guarding the supplies) claims he spots something up on the hill and when he comes back from investigating our worse fears- or rather exactly the fears we expected- are realized. Undead.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Fantastic. And it hasn't even been a day.

(I'm planning on doing a series of shorter updates, as opposed to a few longer ones, seeing as how the beginning of the fortress tends to be so eventful. Stay tuned)

The blasted zombies charge down the slope and chase ausieevil and Ezum down to the river, forcing the construction of wall they were building on hold. Felcis watches from nearby, choosing instead to focus his precious bolts on a much more edible alligator.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Digging goes slow. I suppose I can't help but be unenthusiatic about this whole debacle, and it's showing in my work.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The zombies get the dogs. If one of us was skilled with a weapon I'd say fight, but one hunter with a few bolts can't take out two zombies, or if they can I'm not willing to risk it.
The grasshopper men chase a horse back up the mountain.
No one touches the dog corpses.
Just as well, because now they're as loyal to us as any other zombie

I tell Felcis to stop hunting right away

Him and Sus share a look. They seem to hate zombies as much as I do, and they have the moxy to do something about it. They grab Ezum and and a weapon and run off after the undead menace.
Everything goes better than expected.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A cloud of foul ash drifts in from the east. I yell at someone, anyone to get a door built, I just don't like the look of the stuff, it doesn't look like it'll be kind on the lungs, at the very least.

But Iral is caught in the ash, and by the time it's passed over him you can hardly tell he's supposed to be a dwarf. He chokes on his own blood but moments later. Let's hope his corpse stays down.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Sus ignores the yells to get inside and stands by the river instead, fishing. Another cloud, the the list of deceased rises.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I think I saw Felcis's corpse wandering around out there.

(I'm still hopeful that this is salvageable but wow. At least no one had time to get friendly with each other.)

Oh.
Oh

As it would turn out, zombie dwarves are much harder to take down than zombie grasshopper people. I don't think I lasted 15 days.

What say everyone? Reclaim? Or just have the next person start fresh?

I did not, unfortunately.
If it comes down to it, there's plenty of other swampland to settle on, and there's even an evil tundra in the bottom left of the map if we want to switch it up

...damn, that was quick. I don't think people will be saying that fortress mode is too easy for a while.

Well, if ya'll do get around to starting this up again, could ya'll add me to the list? I've never done a succession game before, and figured it'd be pretty fun.

How about EVERYONE has to gen a world and get a Fort going through a Year, it has to be in an Haunted or Sinister Biome with a Tower nearby (Appearing on the list) and then when you get through a Year you post up your success, if more then one gets through it, we vote on which one wins. And thus is continued...

I genned a nice little pocket world with a Necro Tower near some Purple Shrubland/swamp, currently at 558/1050 years though. Also anyone seen the post about evil rain? Oh dear...

EDIT:: Oh found a nice place. Its a Steep MOUNTAIN against a Terrifying Shrublands. Its got little soil, shallow and deep metals. And a nice little surprise when you embark. You also lose the Wagon when you hit the Face of the mountain too so bonus there right... ^_^

Oh and No Elves...

Interested???

Trying it out... AND IT RAINED HUMAN BLOOD!!! WHAT THE !!!!!!!!!!

I'm still for a traditional sucession myself. But if that embark goes well I say just upload it and pretend like my little mishap didn't happen o_o

Well I am currently uploading this world. So yeah.

EDIT:: http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=5504

Oh and by the way, I wasn't offering to be first, my idea isn't set in stone. I am just offering a nice world with an interesting start if you pick my location...

Holy carp that was fast... oO
But at least I had some screentime before I..."died".

I think you should just give it a few more tries in the same or a similiar area. Try to have a different starting setup that is less vulnerable towards the new threads, if you still have difficulties. For example change my dwarf from a hunter to something that needs to be outside less, like a Weaponsmith/Swordsdwarf.
