I would suggest NOT hunting in Evil Biomes... See Evil Rain thread for reasons why. That world and location has Human Blood Rain in different spouts. VERY Creepy...

I've already embarked again and lost it (even savescumed a few times, died each and every one of them)
3rd time's the charm, hopefully. If not someone else take the wheel because I can not handle the grasshopper man chitin continuously coming back from the dead.

I had an above ground garden built in the grounds of my castle and two young dwarves spent time socialising there over the summer and at the end of the summer they were in love. Remember those long summers of your childhood? That first kiss in the gardens while crossbows dwarves shoot goblins above your head? The rain of dead birds as the hunters get to work? Truly Spearhills is a paradise.

I just managed to survive till the first migrant wave in my personal world (granted, it was the third one as well) in a similiar biome without any casualties. Once you are behind closed doors (they can't break buildings anymore I think) and got all your ressources inside (mostly wood, food and tools) you are fine. Just position 1-2 fighters (even untrained civilian militia should rip most smaller undead to pieces and also train their skills meanwhile) on guard next to the corpse-areas so they can beat them up quickly without interrupting your workers/haulers much. Granted though, till then it's damn annoying and using the overworld for wood, herbalism or hunting is mostly out of question.
Also try to train your dogs as soon as possible and hide them inside till then...zombie dogs are much more dangerous than most other undead creatures I've seen so far.

(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
I'm outie.
I've lost 4 forts or so to the same sort of "kill a grashopper man get strangled by his reanimated arm' thing
(Okay once Sus and Felcis fell off a waterfall and caused a tantrum spiral but still)

Obviously I'm not as good at fortress mode as I once thought. Wickedwishes (and Devilmires and Treequesting and all the others) are now irrelevant posts.
I'm not suitable for founding the fortress. I nominate kilozombie in his prestigious 'first on the list' position to generate a new world and get this thing properly started.
Or whoever nabs it first I guess, I don't much care. I leave myself here to keep the thread organized (and MAYBE get a later, more stable turn, who knows.) o_o

Okay, I could try to do the first year, if no one else volunteers. I still need to gen a suitable world, so tell me if you already got something running.

Let me just summarize the basic premise:
- Haunted or Terryfying biome
- A tower nearby
- 3x3 big?
- I would also say, that the world should also be at least small or medium in size and with at least 300years of history, for more interesting legends and potential adventuring-sidestories.

Anything else?

Sounds good to me - Also, I'm totally in for this challenge.

You know what, strike that - there's a lot of people here on the list already, I'll probably just start my own in a bit.

Anybody in particular want to be dorfed?

Go for it. :)
I'm guessing everyone who applied for dorfing so far should be dorfed again. That should easily be enough for the starting 7 at least.

It should be done in a bit.

Any tips on the starting equipment?

You might also want to increase the evilness on the map, if you have trouble finding enough spots...and decrease the history-length unless you want to gen for 10hours (that really got annoying x__x).

As for starting equipment...I would start with an anvil, 2 picks, a few ores (for copper and some tin if available to cheaply craft more weapons/tools early), some leather for cheap armor/bags, maybe some cloth&strings for medical treatment, lots of wood and the usual stuff (seeds, food, booze). And a solid breeding stock of dogs (3female, 2 male) for early defense and maybe a breeding stock of chickens (other lifestock will just starve underground I think).
But that's just my usual preference. Just make sure to get most of the important stuff underground fast before evil clouds/raid and undeads slaughter you.

Edit: Oh yeah...and don't forget to update to 0.34.02 before genning the world and starting. Otherwise it might break after a while, according to the new changelog. ><

Damn.

I set the time for 500... it took about 10 minutes per year eventually

I'm setting it to 150 now, hopefully that's enough to gen some towers

Yeah 500 and everything above is insane...took me 4-5hours I think, when I tried it on a Medium world.

Up to 250 it's perfectly fine (takes around 10-15 minutes I think) and if you got 1-2hours 350 is okay as well. I hope the speed increases again in future versions.

Augh... so many headaches

I can't gen a world with enough evil

Any tips?

I made there no good squares in subregions and tons of evils... but then it LOWERED the amount of evil

Savagery doesn't do much

Augh... so sick...
