Miner-only embark on the terrifying mountain.
« on: February 10, 2012, 05:06:14 pm »

Hello everyone.  I've done some thinking and I've decided to do an embark with only miners for the first time I seriously try to use a terrifying biome.  The area I've selected is 8*3 with one tile being an untamed jungle.  I need ground rules before I embark... any suggestions?

NOTE:  Try to make the rules as dorfy as possible.

Done with rules now, time to go!

List of rules:

Above-Ground bedrooms

Miners only on embark

Only mine minerals/gems when I can see them (don't mine anything else) and make giant vaults for them.

Embark with pickaxes and a massive amount of lye (must have at least 10 lye).

Only use miners in the military, using pickaxes.

Build a tower for the military.

Make anyone who doesn't have skills with crafting or planting a miner as well.

must have a giant tower dedicated to the military

I know it's fairly common but I killed 180+ people in his civilization before I went after him. I was kind of hoping for something a bit more substantial than a sucker punch and penis theft.

Mining is the only military use available, no other weapons. :D Good luck by the way.

Let Dwarven greed guide.

That is: you MUST mine and hoard ALL resources you see, ASAP, and only them. Construct a huge mountain vault for gems, one for ores, and another one for precious metal bars, and hoard them like Armok's going to smite you tomorrow. Keep your vaults large enough to store all treasure and decorate them handsomely.

Since all mining operations must be dedicated to acquiring precious treasure, except for the ones that are for constructing vaults to store precious treasure, build workshops and bedrooms and such inside the veins and gem patches you've dug out. You may construct walls and doors and such.

The only time when you may mine things not for the purpose of acquiring or storing treasure is when there's no minerals or gems visible to you at all. At that time, engage in exploratory mining in the most effective way possible until such a time as you find more.

Good luck.

It is said knowledge is like a foul-smelling herb. It must be cooked well and thoroughly with experience to make it palatable. A young scholar's knowledge is therefore not only worthless but disgusting. -- In Dwarf Fortress you have another paradigm. Gather as much of that smelly herb as you can and toss it at your enemy, fracturing his skull through the +capybara man leather cap+.

Can be done, but I still need above-ground bedrooms, so it will be less severe.

Are you running the game on a NASA supercomputer?

Nope. I guess I should tone it down.  I've had 5*5 (or around it) embarks before, and its not too much different I'd guess.

They all died of starvation, since they can't drink lye.  The end.
