What's this? Your prisoners can't reach eachother!

What's a prison without tantrum-related shivings?

It seems the give food / water job must be one of the lowest priority tasks in the game.
i just take 1 dwarf and disable every other labor BUT feeding prisoners/patients.

I lost a legendary metalcrafter to this problem once. Now all of my jail cells have their own personal well (as the new prison block just so happened to be right above my main water reservoir). Not a single prisoner has suffered from thirst since.

I never had this problem as I had a well located 1 z level below the prison, so the trek to get water to and from was easy enough.

What does the lever do?  :o

I assume it opens the doors. Or refills the wells' reservoirs.

Releases water over the wells. Sorry, no mechanism of doom or impalement. :P

I don't have this problem, usually when my dwarves commit a crime against a noble they have a damn good reason.  If they punch anyone else, like my militia commander, it never ends well.  My forts are just large free-for-alls with engraved walls, pretty doors, and asstons of plump helmets.

I find when building wells in prisons that there can be issues with dwarfs using the well to clean themselves. This also leads to my freshly cleaned dwarfs eating prisoner food if they're hungry after their bath. Obviously there are ways around this, just thought I'd mention it since it can be a problem if you don't plan for it. Particularly if you like keeping blood to a minimum.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Engraved 5x5 with food stockpile, statues, 4 chains, 4 beds, well in the center, waterfall on top of the well.

I wanted to give them a table and chairs too, but the rest of my dwarves started to ignore the huge hall and go to the jail to eat. >:(

I have never, Ever wanted to use a texture pack before.

But GOD DAMN that one is amazing

I know it's fairly common but I killed 180+ people in his civilization before I went after him. I was kind of hoping for something a bit more substantial than a sucker punch and penis theft.

I have a question. If a chained dwarf falls down a well that is deeper than the length of the chain, does he just dangle in the well shaft? Or break the bonds?

Chains do not physically restrain the creatures attached to them at all, they only prevent them from moving away under their own power.  They're not so much chains as mind control devices.  So if a creature attached to a chain falls more than one Z-level, it simply becomes detached from the chain.

Damn, no mass-hangings yet, then. :-\

Edit: Though why you'd bother with a rope when a 57 Z-level drop works just as well, I do not know. Less mess, perhaps?
