I invited Darkmere. Also one thing to note is that you can create two accounts for Illyriad. This effectively doubles your power in the long term. Early on it can be a hassle as buildings don't take long to build and you are limited to having 2 in queue building at once per city. However the payoff later on is that build times increase to hours and days so it's not as much hassle at that point; and you can muster twice the troops or diplomats as normal and in addition they can be of different race and thus specialties. Plus it gives you more to do when you play the game.
The limit is 2 accounts of course; enforcement is very lax on trading between the two. However you can get in trouble for 'fueling' one account with another, so for simplicities sake I don't send caravans in between. It's not overly difficult to become self sufficient per account though so it's no hindrance at all, especially with the help of an alliance.
Having two accounts also would allow you to spread yourself over a larger geographical area as well, which is not to be underestimated.
It's totally up to you whether or not you'd like two accounts or not; but my advice is always make two when I talk to new players. Also prestige; aka the way the game makes money; is transferable to a guild account so you can access it with both accounts if you wish to use it.
Finally be sure to claim your daily prestige when you login the first time in 24+ hours. You can get 1 point daily which accumulates over time and which can be used for instant builds (useful to skip those long buildtimes) or can be used as an emergency boost for wartime if kept in reserve.
One final note that answers a common question is that no, prestige purchase is not in any way required. I played for about 2 years without making a purchase. I finally sunk about 30$ into prestige very recently for the alliance because I played the game for 2 years and they deserved it in my opinion due to being an outstanding game. Also keep in mind the devs give out 1 point of prestige per day per acount; this is enough after a week or two of playing to be useful so it helps even the balance between purchasers and non purchasers while still having an incentive to throw a little money at them.
