its more like it feels like 10 or 20 start each day... mostly because they are almost identical... and tbh this game doesnt seem that different from the recent "branch" of those games

and yes... if you got the right people with you every game can be fun

What makes Illyriad different is the player base.  I think every one of us was utterly surprised by the reaction we got merely from talking in the general chat when we first started.  Players are eager to answer questions and will send resources without being asked.  Interestingly, there is even a strange sub-culture (cult?) of people who engage in prolific acts of (((snuggles))).  I try to stay out of that scene though.

Part of the reason for the different atmosphere in illyriad is that the community seems to be much older than you see in most browser-games.

This game is getting more interesting every day.  They just started a tournament that is basically a king-of-the-hill contest fought over multiple locations throughout the world map.  The Bay12 alliance plans to participate in this tournament, as we have participated in past tournaments.  An interesting fact is that the first tournament in Illyriad was actually organized by a member of the Bay12 alliance, Noryasha Grunk.

This new tournament is the fifth one, and the last tournament actually just ended last month.  The last tournament involved players defending against hordes of undead that were pouring out of a giant rift to hell that suddenly appeared on the world map.  Perhaps some foolish ambitious dwarves unwittingly dug too deep.  These are some of the examples of interesting things that the Dev's continue to provide for players.

I'm in. What makes these MMO games fun is the community, not so much the gameplay mechanics. Just having a known alliance in the game is more than enough.

I love these city building MMOs anyway, might be fun to apply past skill to this one

It is a wonderful community. The best I've ever played. Also I don't know if you read earlier or not but the game is very new player friendly. If you are attacked and you announce it to the community they could possible go on a man-hunt.

I have absolutely no intention of getting back - I eventually decided this sort of game just isn't for me. But there were lots of good memories, and the guys running it seem like pretty cool people. I definitely miss the crowd I ran with, even if I don't miss the game mechanics.

We miss you. I'll give Marat your thanks for mentioning Noryasha. When I found out you were Norysha Grunk, I went "What?" but I realized you were roleplaying after I looked at the forums some more.
